Hi out of the millions of people out there can anyone help?my cousin and myself are searching for any info on Walter James Smith born 1890 Shoreditch London.Was a printers labourer.His children were Elizabeth Rose,John Joseph.William,+Louisa,all but Elizabeth were sent to Australia.Where is Elizabeth?anyone out there do you know!!We have found all but what happened to Elizabeth and are at a full stop we look forward to any help.......Thankyou.

But I would still think it unlikely.

What year were the other children sent to Australia?

I would really recommend that you get her birth certificate if you don't have it.

That will give you here exact date of birth. Then, hoping that she / her informant of death knew it, you can search the GRO deaths index by given names and date of birth. It's searchable at Ancestry now 1984-2005 and Ancestry should soon have the searchable index 1916-1983 completed. Exact dates of birth started to be included in the index in about 1971.

It's sometimes possible to find a woman's death (or at least find a narrow field of candidates) this way, even without knowing her married surname. A marriage to match the surname of a candidate in the deaths index can then be searched for, etc.

For an idea, only two people named Elizabeth Rose born July 1909 are in the index 1984-2005.

And one of them is an Elizabeth Rose Smith.

Unfortunately it wouldn't be possible to search pre-1984 now, even "by hand" in the untranscribed images, assuming her death is under a married surname. But surely Ancestry won't be much longer with the pre-1984 index ...

Yes I don't fancy looking for a Smith death pre 1984, even if she did die as a Smith married or not!!

I can't wait until Ancestry transcribes the records, can't come soon enough.
