Just received a lovely message from Claire....... thank you.

I take my hat of to ALL nurses, you do a fantastic job!!!

We all start somewhere Claire, and like Janey states....... think GR could be far more helpful for all their new subscribers........ but that's another story.

Many apologies for my little "spat", thought my work was just repeated from an earlier thread............. just pleased that it all seems to come together for you Claire.

Calling it a night ( I think) for now........... happy hunting Janey.

No no, Dee -- there was a bit of repetition, but you're the one who got to the bottom of it after all! A stellar job!

It's the *(&%#^ "surname boards" again. Claire sees all her threads right there all at once (or two of them, anyway, on the Franklyn "board"), and doesn't know that there's the big wide world of real trying-to-find where they are pages and pages apart ... because the &%^&@^ management of this place actively interferes in productive, cooperative use of the boards by directing people to the ^$*^# "surname boards" and hiding the one-post-per-topic rule where no one ever reads it ...

If you had started out giving the 1901 census info in this thread in the first place -- it's been "found" three times now -- some wasted effort would have been spared.

The rule is one post per topic.

And it's also nice if you would stick around when you post and acknowledge replies/answer quetions.

Excellent, Dee! I got to read it when it was all done. ;)

Note -- if you do a general search at FreeBMD for all events, surname FRATK*N, you'll see that the spelling changed from FRATKEN to FRATKIN between 1898 and 1904 (and presumably then became Franklin/lyn).

Claire

Claire Report 21 Sep 2009 18:48

Hi,
I am still on the hunt for more info on my great grandfather Michael Franklyn. Thanks to the advice given to people on here i have managed to find out a little more.

Michael's parents were called Louis (Lewis) and Leah they were british born Russian. They had children called Ada, Jane, Annie, Michael, Carselli and ? Ethel. Ada, Jane and Annie were born in Russia and the other 3 were born in Bristol Gloustershire.
Annie and Jane are reorded on the 1901 census as being deaf and dumb and were tayloreses. Louis was a Tin Plate Worker.

On the 1901 census it spells their surname FRANKLIN, although on Michael's Marrage certificate it stated his surname FRANKLYN although this has been a running debate in my family for years! All other info adds up to this being my family.
But i have come to another dead end and can't find them on the 1891 census so don't know if they were still in Russia then! Any ideas or help would be most appreciated!
Thanks Claire x
