Sorry - just realised that that Samuel who had a Selina visiting in Glasgow was actually born in England! I was wondering if he was perhaps a brother of your Samuel's father, William?? |

Samuel born 1841 his father wasnt scottish, but it looks like just Samuel was born in Scotland. His father William seems to have been born in Chorlton. But it seems funny that the Samuel from Scotland born 1827c ended in living with them in Manchester. so they must be conected |

Many thanks to root gatherer, it looks like its the same Samuel, in Chorlton upon ;Medlock, i think the family lived at one time in Spotland nearer near Manchester, and I am wondering if Spotland has been mistaken for Scotland. and the Blacksmith spiker is I ;think a Blacksmith striker. Samuel became a blacksmith later on. I had never seen this on e in Chorlton, is Chorlton near Manchester. thanks again E Halliday |

Do you have Samuel on earlier census records? I see that in 1871 he does indeed give his place of birth as Glasgow - but I don't see him in 1861 or 1851. Halliday isn't a particularly Glaswegian surname and is much more usual in Dumfries-shire and Kirkcudbrightshire. |
