	You can search here: http://www.1911census.co.uk/ It is free to search the index. If you want to see a transcription or a copy of the record then you will need to buy credits. It's the same for all of us I'm afraid. Jill

	Quinsgran not quite correct You can go direct to the 1911 website without having to go through findmypast www.fmpbsol.1911census.co.uk/ I don't see the point in paying a subscription to findmypast just to access the 1911 census, on which you then have to buy credits! sylvia

	I'm not seeing a James Hawkins born in Rochester on any of the other censuses. There's only one Henry Andrew Hawkins on Ancestry but he was from Hampshire/Surrey and there's no James with him. Rose

	If he joined the Royal Navy you might be able to find his Naval record on the National Archives site. It might be one of the downloadable ones which would cost £3.50. Jill
