You don't need to order the certificates for births prior to 1908, marriages 1933 and deaths 1958. These can all be viewed online using the Scotlandspeople website. It is free to register at the site but you do need to buy credits to view search results and certificates. It does really work out quite cheap - if you get the correct entry first time it is only costing you £1.20 per certificate. With the information that you have you will probably get the correct one first time for the marriages and even the birth of Elizabeth. Neither Beith nor Lochwinnoch are particularly big places. |

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction I found Francis' marriage records to Jane Lafferty 1886 & Martha McNeil 1880. Both marriages were presided over by Henry Glen (minister) & both state Francis parents were deceased. So can I assume they were presbytarian?. |

Another point, if you get his marriage certificates you will be able to tell his religion - it will say who married him ie Priest of Minister and the certificates also give the place that the marriage took place. Often, at that time the Minister came to either the home of the Bride or Groom and married them there. |

If you go onto Scotlandspeople website (Www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk) and get the birth certificate of Elizabeth in 1865, it will tell you the date and place of the parents' marriage. This should point you to where in Ireland they came from. |

Martyn...You wont be able to get Isaac's Birth Cert per se as it was long before Civil Reg. the best you can hope for is the Baptism Record from the appropriate Church...you still havent said if we are looking at RC/Pres. |

In the 1861, Eliza's POB is also given as Ireland - you might find Francis's marriage on the Irish marriage index on familysearch site - click on Search Records, Record Search Pilot, Browse Records, click on Europe on the map and scroll down to Ireland |

Irish records are sketchy . you need to know the information you seek before you can get records!and thats only if they are available and a lot are not. what is on Francis death cert? usually a relative reports the death..so that may be a lead. Are you sure about the 3 marriages? divorce was extortionate and rarely available then ...have you looked for the deaths of any of the women? again the informant details may help.. what was his occupation? do you know if he was ever in the forces...maybe an avenue to look at? unfortunately you can only start from what you know and work backwards. good luck |

Hi I am trying to find details of my ancestors Issac Robb & Francis Robb. I know Isaac was born in Ireland c1820 & married Martha McCabe c1820 & they had a son Francis born in 1840 also in Ireland. He died in Scotland in 1910. He was married to Jane lafferty, Elizabeth Hamilton & Martha McNeil. |
