Just because she was living in Barnsley when she married doesn't necessarily mean she was born there.

Hi Margaret, how do you know that it is your Florence on the 1891 - are you going by the address only?

Just out of interest can you post the witnesses names and we might be able to tie them in.

Also can you post her fathers profession from the Marriage Certificate

Margaret

Margaret Report 26 Aug 2009 22:02

How do you KNOW she was born in Barnsley-I'm not being rude-just wondered how you know for sure-family members can get things slightly adrift sometimes by word of mouth that's all.-You don't have her birth cert I take it from this-Do you know where she grew up? what church she may have attended? or maybe even school?-You could try local papers around the time of the possible Mrashall?belk name problem.

I did this for one of mine and it turned out they had comitted a pretty bad crime-and had officially chnaged their name after serving their scentence.

Don't want to firghten you!! but it might help.

I think-as the only black and white info you have at present is her marriage-naming the father as Edward Belk-you need next to get her birth cert-confirming both parents-or you may find it names only a mother- Maybe Edward Belk wasn't actualy her father-or had died/done a runner by the time she was born? Possible she just picked a name rather than put nothing -that wasn't unheard of.

My grandads marriage helped us-said one surname then formerly the other! Then his birth had it the other way round on that and had a diffrent father named altogether!!! we found them hidden under a floorboard after the house had been emptied. Don't think they'd have been too pleased with us!

Birth ref is

Belk Florence Barnsley 9c 204
