Hi Lancashire Ann,

The occupations of George and Patrick on these baptismal records are all consistent with Patricks occupation which was in various catagories, all in the gun trade in Birmingham, i.e. Gunsight maker, gunsight filer, gun screwer etc.

Hi Fanny by gaslight, thanks for looking for me.
Yes the baptism records for Mary Ann, George Patrick and Rosina are all my Phelans. Although Mary Ann was baptised at Walthams Cross, she was born in Birmingham. I thought she may have been christened at the same time as other siblings, but can find no records to verify this. Sarah I can find neither baptism record or birth reg for her. I have copies of the baptism records for Mary ann at Waltham Cross, and George Patrick at St Martin,s, Birmingham and Rosina at St Mary,s Birmingham.
Ozibird, As you found, Esther,s maiden name was Craddock , that is their marriage Req. Patrick,s name being recorded as Patt.
On Rosina,s baptism record the father,s name is given as George but either this is another of Patrick,s christian names or they have mistakenly entered her brother Georg,s name.
Thanks a lot for all your help. i,ll just keep on looking for variations of both christian and surnames.
Jeanette

Hi Reggie,

Thanks for your reply, I,m sorry if I have not kept to the proper procedure. As I explained before I don,t use the boards often, so may well have used them incorrectly.
I will certainly keep all my requests for any certain family on one thread in future.
Jeanette.

Hi Shirley,
thanks for replying. I,m sorry if nudging the thread up was the wrong thing to do, not very conversant with all the procedure.
I just wondered if you good people would have another look at this for me as I,ve never had any luck finding a berth reg. As you say perhaps she just was not registered, although this seems strange as her sister Elizabeth was registered in 1860.
Thanks for the 1861 census, this one is the last census that Patrick ever appears on although Esther does not refer to herself as a widow until 1891.
I certainly did check the birth certs which were given. Elizabeth was Sarah,s sister but the one for Stepney has the wrong father.
Thanks once again for your help.
Jeanette.

Not sure why you have nudged up the thread, did you check out the birth certs given??

Its always possible that her birth wasn't registered as ther were no penalties for non registration till 1875.

Hi Ozibird,
Thanks for replying, I did have Elizabeth,s birth reg even though the family name has been given as Phalen. As you can see the birth has been registered at Edmonton, which is one reason why I was not sure of the entry that Vivienne kindly found me, as this was registered at Stepney, although of course it is possible that the family might havemoved after Sarah,s birth. I will certainly check the Stepney entry out, thanks again for your help. Jeanette.

Hi Vivienne, thanks a lot for replying, I have based the place of birth on the fact that the family were living in Enfield on the 1861 census. I think sarah had the second name Ann on this census, but on later census records she has just the name of Sarah. I will certainly try to find out whether the Sarah you found is my ancestor, if necessary I will get the certificate, with the proviso that the mothers name is Esther. Thank you so much for this, I,ll have to see if the Reg district would be Stepney.
I really am grateful for the information, thanks so much,
Jeanette.

Was the Ann added after birth reg.
