For my mum's friend Sarah Harvey, parents are on cert,

Emma Harvey age 22, living at 4a Plevna street, New Beckham
Age 22, father is Thomas Harvey a Coal Porter

And she married

Claude James age 32, a Seaman, living at 25 Creighton? avenue. Father is William James who is a Engine Driver.

Married in august 1922 in East Ham.

Also on the cert it did say surname was Harley but has been crossed out and numbered, does that mean a genuine mistake?

How can i find out any more about Emma's mum?

KathleenBell Report 21 Aug 2009 14:00

If the name was crossed out and numbered then it was just a mistake made by the registrar. They have to number each mistake they make and is logged somewhere separately, but the name will be what he has changed it to.

Have searched 1911 for Thomas harvey coal porter, living with Emma, and this came up:

HARVEY THOMAS M 1874 37 West Ham Essex

With the occupation and another family member Emma, might be worth paying to see original, hopefully you will get mother's name from it.

Christina,

That looks like right family as just spoke to my mum's friend and she swears Emma was born in Southampton. So in that census her and her mum another Emma and Husband Thomas are visitors to the Cann household?

Thankyou

The birth registered in South Stoneham is the only one for the right place and year of birth, so is most likely hers.

Re your pm. I've added the details to the post for Sarah & Thomas.

Looks like they were staying just 8 houses away from their parents.
