yes i saw 1951 cencsus it would be great if you could look for the jersey birth

I might be able to look at son William's birth certificate here in Jersey (free to look). It should give Mothers maiden name and might say which regiment Thomas was in.

In 1851 they are stationed in Guernsey,

Sorry not a clue on that ,Im pretty rubbish when it comes to the Army,even gave up on my own G G Grandfather born 1844 Ireland and in The Queens Dragoon Guards. .

Edit,,the disability that shows against his occupation does not mean he is disabled .its just how the census are worded.
That census is free to look at on "familysearch"

thanks for your help again viv i see he may be recving a disabilty pension from army what sites or records do i need to look in to confirm this

So he was out of the army in 1881,and you get where he was born in Ireland.

Thomas was born pre registration and Irish records are pretty hard to find,so I cant help there.
Unless he is on "familysearch"I dont think you will have much luck.

Or you could search for his marriage on

www.freebmd.org.uk

Which will give you his fathers name and occupation,,hopefully.

Fannys little sister Mary born in Colchester,her birth cert should have his army details on it.
