Hi
Wild wild shot in dark. Do above ring any bells with anyone or any one can help !?!?

Ada is my GGGrandmother. She marries an Edward Clinker in Liverpool in 1862. On their marriage certficate her father is given as Joseph Thompson, occupation 'gentleman'. After their marriage she is easy to trace and her birth date n place are consistent. However before her marriage I cannot find any trace of her in census years 1841 through to 1871. Nor can I find her birth certificate or baptism nor does the wedding certificate give an interesting witness as clue to siblings whom I have no evidence of any.

The closest match in census would mean assuming she'd changed her name to Ada at marriage as I can find an Elizabeth of same birth n date. Living with her grandparents - Henry Jackson. But I have no other evidence linking to Jackson.

I've tried many many different sources but have run into a brick wall on her. Sigh. Its annoying as the phrase ' gentleman' is intriguing.

Any help seriously gratefully received.

Jon

Do you know what year Joseph died?

On looking at this site

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/search-results.asp?searchtype=browserefine&query=first_name%3djoseph%7clast_name%3dthompson%7cplace%3dcumberland&catid=6&pagenumber=1&querytype=1&mediaarray=*

There are three Joseph Thompsons Cumberland - who left a will which you can download for £3.50 - I noticed one of them was a bit early but it said 1812 Muncaster, Cumberland so may be of interest.

Regards

Alan

Wow. Didn't intend to check back for a few days. Thanks folks ! Dunno protocol so will gratefully reply in one message to keep board clutter free !

Paula - Ages back I had seen those but immediately dismissed given timings not good. But thinking again perhaps the Muncaster Joseph is his father. Might be worth a punt.

Alan - thats interesting the Ireland - rather than Muncaster, Cumberland - could be typo. Then again there's a Muncaster in Eire isn't there..hmm

K - nice one. timings not great. The 1836 Joseph marriage caught eye. Where did that come from ?

Erin - neat angle. Lots of Thompsons in Cumbria is my problem. Where did that come from. Am keen to head to closer to 1838.

Once again - thanks for help.

Apologies the baptism I posted and the marriage of Margaret Steele and Joseph Thompson were both from the IGI on Family Search

My great grandfather from the Isle of Man also listed his father as a gentleman on his marriage cert. Sadly he was an agricultural labourer

Good Luck Kay

I searched for a birth of an Elizabeth Thompson on the IGI and found one in Muncaster. In this way I found the batch number for births in the parish about the right time1813 - 1874, which is C011842.

Go to the IGI section of Family Search and put in just the batch number and you should get all the children baptised between these dates or alternatively just put in the christian name Ada with the batch number and you will find her
