Can anyone tell me how to fget information from scottish census?
I am trying to find a James A? Pollock b. 1834 in scotland. He was i the durham area by 1880 as an iron worker but I have no other info. I do not know where in scotland he came from and his birth date comes from the english census so may well be incorrect.
I am also trying to trace Irish relatives - are the Irish archives on internet access? All help welcome.

Scotlands People have the census,pay per view only.
And if you have Scottish ancestry it is wise to sign up anyway as its the best for all scots records.
Or ancestry have scottish census ,but you cant view the images.

Irish records are more hit and miss I have found ,but there are a few people on here that are rather good at finding Irish info,just not me though.

Have you found any of them on 1911 to try for an area of birth?

no i have yet to get to kew for that search. is it possible to get the 1911 on internet access?

Do you know who John K pollock married?

Oh yes you told me in a pm,Catherine campbell.

But his mother Catherine on 1881 says born Ireland not Scotland.

thanks for the info re 1911 census.
john kerr pollock married a catherine campbell she was born in durham 1867 and married john in may 1887, she died aged 26, john died aged 33 both from t.b. and starvation!

This looks like Johns birth from SP,and the only one with second initial K for that timescale.

apologiesabout catherine - you are right she was from ireland which is why i assume they married in england but i can find no record.
The info you gave me about john - i presume to persue it i will have to join scotlands people or can i order the cert using the info you have given me ( although most of it makes little sense i am assuming he came from cockpen! midlothian.

Back in a bit with the details,then youve had it as thats my spare credits for this month will be done.

this makes great sense and explains why john was called kerr as his middle name. I will obviously have to subscribe to sp to get all the info i need but you have opened up a great area of research for me. my mother still lives in durham so perhaps a trip to bonnyriggs would be in order - i don't know how far back the scottish records go but i am very grateful for your efforts. i can't wait to tell my mother as he is her grandfather on the paternal side.
