Find Ancestors

We have my husband,s Grandfather,s Birth Cert His name was John Hugh Wartnaby born 19/6/1888. Parents John Hugh Wartnaby and Jane Wartnaby(formerly Wake) address given as36 Landor Rd Stockwell Lambeth. Were on earth do we look for the parents?? I have I think tried every source but cannot find either of them before or after this date we seem to have hit a brick wall!!!

Have you found their marriage cert?

That would help as with a name like Wartnaby I expect they've been mistranscribed as something weird and wonderful.

Have you found John with parents in the 1891? Do you have idea of yob of parents plus where they were born?

What is the occupation of father given on the birth cert?

We haven,t got Marriage cert , all we know is that John Jnr was sent to Eastleigh Hants at a very early age and according to my late father in law his dad could,nt remember anything and was,nt told the reason he was sent to stay in Hant,s. All we do know that John Snr was a Law writer and that him and Jane lived at that address and a M A Pickering was present at birth of their son. Poor mother in law has been trying for 10 years to find what happened to John and Jane. It certainly a challenge!!

On the birth cert does it mention who M A Pickering is - such as aunt etc?

Can anyone access the passengers lists on Ancestry - my sub does not cover them - UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960

and he is in Winchester on 1911 census

Thanks for all the trying I have got most of John Hugh Jnr born 1888 info It,s he,s dratted father and mother that,s the problem I,m beginnig to think perhaps father,s name was put down wrong it just seems strange we can.t find either Jane formerly Wake or John senior anywhere must be Aliens!!!

You,ve all given me something to look at !!! I hve got John Andrew Wartnaby,s death cert it threw me a bit as it said he was a carpenter not a law writer but as the John Hugh could be wrong anything is possible anyway thanks to you all I,ve got something to work on and who knows I might beat Mother in law !!!!! to the answer ( John Andrew Wartnaby was knocked down by a locomotive train (1888) 5mths before John Hugh Jnr was born. does,nt state if single or married )
