Knew I recognnised the name. Taken from " Murders of the Black Museum" by Gordon Honeycombe

"He was 34. Thin faced, nice looking, tall (about 5'10'') and with an athletic build, his most noticable features were his his deep-set eyes and thick brown wavy hair which wasa already streaked with grey. His father was a stock keeper in a clothing wharehouse . Born in 1889 and brought up in West Derby, Liverpool by Irish parents''
He married Jessie on 6th April 1910

Off to see what else I can find.

Hi Joan

Yes I did google it, but I am trying to find out when and where he was born and who and when he married.

Apparently he is a relation of mine, don't know yet what the connection is though.
Makes a change from coal miners and Ag Labourers lol!!!

Thanks

Sorry, I didn't get back to you. I got the date of the marriage and his wife's name from murders of the black museum.

According to the book he was a habitual womaniser, a habit that didn't stop when he married. (He went for a dirty weekend with another woman shortly after the marriage)

It seems he just couldn't help himself turning on the charm and going off with the ladies. The reason he got caught after the robbery was he stayed behind to make sure the maid recovered from the hammer blow and when she regained consciousness he kissed her!

Once again I apologise for not coming back sooner. I have a copy of the book. There are copies on Amazon starting at a penny with £2.75 postage.

Its a shame, I used to have it in paperback but got rid of it when I got the hardback version. The account of the case runs to 18 pages but gives little backgground to Mahon apart from the bits I could find. I'm sure the Times report would be more detailed.

Its also available on abebooks for 61p and £2.50 postage. Its a real shame that the Old Bailey online only goes up to 1913
