Victoria Report 3 Jul 2009 18:36

Thank you for all your help, your right I didn't realise that there would be so many people trying to help me. I will try and explain a bit better. The information I gave was from my Grandads funeral notice. My Grandad was Alexander James Pinnell born 1922, Gateshead, he died in 1991. He was married to a Beatrice June Adams in 1946. His Mother was Edith Varty and his dad was James Pinnell. I have found out that Edith was married previously to William M Hall and they had a daughter Mary M Hall. I think that Muriel was a Robinson which I found out today by a search for voters records, listed at the same address as well as Muriel Robinson was Janet Robinson and Deborah Hall? I have drawn a bit of a blank. I do not know what the boys surnames were as they were not listed. Not sure if relevant but James Pinnell was also married before to a Roseina Quigley but I could not find any children.

Thank you, Victoria

Victoria, you've posted in your other thread but not this one. It makes far more sense to keep all the info together here.

In the other thread you repeated that Muriel Robinson was Alexander Pinnell's sister-in-law.

Still doesn't help.

Was Muriel the wife of Alexander's brother, or the sister of his wife? Or possibly even the wife of his wife's brother?

Whose children are the various nephews and nieces? Nephews and nieces of whom?

To figure out how the names fit and try to help with tracking, that's somewhat significant.

Even more coincidentally (?), we have a Muriel Brand with mother Varty born in Gateshead 1947.

(This is the kind of personal info that shouldn't really be on the boards and I will delete it if Victoria returns, or if she doesn't return.)

Ignore me! There's a Stephen Pinnell with mother Patterson, so I thought I'd struck gold - but he has a sister Rose, and none of the others.

Seems Alexander married both a Parker and a Brand, and we're figuring Muriel must be sister to one of them. ;)

Who these nieces and nephews are, since they don't seem to be Alexander's children, nobody knows, except that the Janet Robinson in the other thread may be one of them.

Bit confused, are we looking for a marriage of Muriel Patterson to a Mr Robinson?

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 3 Jul 2009 10:01

Hmm. "Alec Pinnell was your brother in law" -- addressed to Muriel, I think.

Since he seems to have had no sibs, she can only have been his wife's sister.

Fine time for Ancestry to conk out. I can't get his wife's surname. ;)

Oops, just saw Sheila's post. Duh!

It's hopeless for now.

I found one of the niece/nephew names with mother Patterson, but there aren't any other names matching. Who knows whether they're even brothers and sisters? In fact the person sought in the other thread seems to be one of them, and is a Robinson.

Victoria was hoping Muriel (and Janet, in the other thread) would see this post. The odds of that are about nil. She likely didn't realize other members would be trying to help.

Janey

When i read it, i get the impression Muriel is Alec's sister... and the children are hers as she states she does not know their surname.

Sadly when people are only known by one name it's not always possible to state the 'full' name...she gave it as she knows it?

First marriage is too a Parker the second one is too a Brand, Janey think ancestry, are updating the site.

You cannot find the name by ' find spouse ' , but you can click onto the image and get it that way :O) Have to nip out for a bit now happy hunting !

Complete, correct names matter, Victoria.

Name: Alexander Pinnell
Mother's Maiden Surname: Varty
Date of Registration: Jan Feb Mar 1923
Registration district: Gateshead
Registration county: Durham
Volume Number: 10a
Page Number: 1831

In your other thread, the search is on for "Alec".

Okay, I'm muddled. Alec wasn't married to Varty, he was son of Varty.

Those Muriels must be coincidental.

If you'll just give the actual relationship, Victoria, and what Muriel's name was before or after marriage (you know one or the other), the search could be fairly straightforward.

Was Alec's wife Patterson? Is Muriel her sister? Alec himself apparently had no siblings, at least full siblings.

I would suggest the second Muriel is the right one...

...and a brother?

....as more data is on this thread, you will be better off deleting the other thread!

There are marriages for both those Muriels in the GRO index at Ancestry, both in Gateshead, the first in 1939 and the second in 1946.

Unfortunately, that index is malfunctioning for me (although possibly not for someone else?) so I can't get the husbands' names at the moment.

Ancestry says to check back later!

There sure won't be any point in duplicating basic info in two closely related threads:

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1160989

Unfortunately it's virtually impossible to figure out from either one how any of these people are related.

Does this mean Muriel was Alec's wife's sister?
