not able to find a marriage and suspect Ophelia's birth surname is that of her mother Elizabeth

Ophelia married John Ripley in 1886 (Skipton, 9a/74 Dec). Father Jonas Ingham was born c 1830 Yorkshire, so family lore tells us, but where, is more a guess, Bradford/Skipton most likely.

Ophelia's mother's maiden name was Stoyles/Stoiles, so Ophelia Edmondson does not fit.

1901 census Ophelia records her birth place as Shipley (Bradford), but nothing there either. Her children as Skipton.

What about, Ophelia was born in England enroute to the ship for USA, and the couple didn't have time to register the birth, before its departure!!!

Thought I was on to something with Ophelia - never mind. As to her birth, I think it's a case of keep looking! Perhaps it was just never registered.

don't know how they got to USA (or came back) - can't find them at all - did Jonas not come back with them?

I like the Aphelia, born q December 1864, Bradford. Fits nicely with c1865, and Shipley.

Only Elizabeth returned with their two daughters sometime between 1870 and 1881. Jonas remained in USA were he died post 1910, in Newcastle.
