Hi

Thank you for all the posts:
Fairthorn - this is the correct marriage certificate for my Great Grandparents - I have this certificate. I also thought his middle name might be Harris but on the marriage certificate it is definately Harry - that's practically the only word I can decipher!!! His occupation is something to do with the Railways - I can't decipher the 2nd word - that is why I have assumed he didn't come from Oldham but that is just a guess

Slyvia in Canada - I have ordered this certificate and it isn't a relation - It did set me off on the path of thinking it was until I got in touch with someone from Genes Reunited who confirmed that I was looking into the wrong father, this Elsies father is Joseph Hughes. Apparantly Hughes is a big family in Oldham. Thank you for the links to other sites I will be checking those out as like you I was born in Oldham

Thanks for your help so far, I will keep on looking :o)

Jane

There is this Elsie Bacon born in Oldham in 1902 ................. many many children (possibly the majority) were registered with only one forename, then a second or third would be added at christening time. The birth registration is not altered when this happens.

Births Sep 1902 (>99%)

Hughes Elsie Oldham 8d 620

Hi

I wnder if anyone can help, I am trying to find more information about my Great Grandma Elsie May Bacon nee Hughes born 1902, I have her marriage certificate, she married Elias Bacon on the 21st March 1925, which states her fathers name as Benjamin Harry Hughes, Elsie was married in Oldham so I have assumed she was born in Oldham but can find no record of a birth certificate or any mention of her father in the census returns. I have looked on freebmd, lancashireorg & family search.
I would be grateful for any help in trying to research this side of my family.

Thanks

Jane
