Now Know a little more two death certs 1st informant was A.Chapman widow of deceased. This not legal as she was actually STILL KNOWN AS a. Thompson never married thomas Chapman/Hurley.
The 2nd death cert was also witnessed by James John Hurley looking for any census address etc also when Amy Thomson or Chapman as she called herself died or left Kenyon ST,wHETHER THERE ARE ANY LIVING RELATIONS OF jJAMES JOHN HURLEY? oNE OF THE BIGGEST QUESTIONS HAS GOT TO BE WHY DID tHOMAS cLIFT hURLEY BECOME tHOMAS cHAPMAN WHEN DID HIS WIFE hARRIET bACHE dIE. Anything at all that fills the gaps.

Now have so much more information. My Grandfather went under the two names!! I have infront of me 2 death certs. The 1st is for THOMAS CHAPMAN who died in Weston Road Infirmary on 5thMarch 1941 aged 62years he lived at 66 Kenyon Street Birmingham 18. He was a funeral Directors Coachman (Harmans Funerals) of Summer Lane.
On the Certificate the informant was A. Chapman widow of deceased.

A note added at the side
"Entry irregular Informant not qualified.
Statutory Declaration made by Amy Thompson otherwise Chapman
and James John Hurley and death registered at
no. 348 on 24th June 1941"

the next death cert is

same date and place
name now THOMAS CLIFT HURLEY otherwise THOMAS CHAPMAN

This time informant is someone from the Infirmary

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I presume it is a matter of searching Census's. I do have a lot of info on the Hurleys even some contact with relations. Any help will be very warmly welcomed, as I dont have a lot of time with my four children oops 5 =hubbie!! & a starting out business of italian charm bracelets. I will go & See what info that I can put on. Also have a tree of distant Hurleys which will definetly look more interesting now.
Sorry Michelle- I misunderstood and have put the incorrect death above. I see the death you mean now:
THOMAS C HURLEY 1941 Mar qtr Birmingham 6d see J'41
If you phone Birmingham registry office they should be able to send the certificate you want- they have their own genealogist on site, and are usually very helpful.
Let us know what's on the certificate when it arrives and we might be able to help you out.
Best wishes.
Helen
Still not used to this but No I don t have any Certs. I am going to apply for Death Certificate of Thomas C. Hurley in 1941 it does say that this is a difficult, non-standard notation, so to get a copy of this it would be best to go in person to B/ham Reg Office, but as I live in West Wales not easy. I am going to ring the registrars later let you know how I go on.
Michelle, you'll have to bear with us- this seems a little complicated.
I've had a message from Michelle and from it, this is what I can gather:
Michelle's Dad has the surname Thompson- this is on his birth certificate, and his mother is listed as Amy Boneham.
This fits with the marriage found in 1911.
However, just before Michelle's Dad was evacuated (from the Birmingham area) during the war (1941), his father died, but on the funeral card his name was listed as THOMAS HURLEY CHAPMAN.
Michelle has found his death:
Thomas Chapman 1941 age 62, Birmingham 6d 342
So, if they are the same person, why the name change?? and can anyone find him on the census?
Michelle, I hope this what you mean't- if you need to reply or add anything, use the reply button at the top of this thread so others can see your information.
Do you have the death certificate, and the marriage certificate of Amy and Thomas?
Searching info on my grandfather Thomas Hurley Chapman/ Thomas Clift Hurley/ Thomas Hurley Chapman. Worked for Harmons funeral directors of Summer Lane, Birmingham, known addresses for him would be Northwood Street, B'Ham & later Kenyon Street, Hockley,B'Ham. Any leads appreciated, as I am trying to fill in gaps in my birth fathers history. If anyone can trace census for this family , although fAMILY was known also as Thompson. My fathers name on birth cert was Thompson, his mother Boneham, but he said Hurley Chapman brought him up?
