Thanks 4 all yr info the 1881 c information is the right family
the knowlers some times come up as knowles when going back
and sarah name cames up the other way round
can you tell me when and if adoptions were registered on paper as herbert knowler was sarah s stepson in 1911 and ellen sis of whom i dont know yet.

Adoption became a formal, legal, process in the mid-late 1920's.
