1911 census shows that there is a Frederick R. Ellis living in Bromley, Kent:-

HOUSEHOLD ELLIS FREDERICK ROBERT M 1890 21 Bromley Kent

so I would say that this is likely to be the one in 1914 marriage so 1915 one is looking even more likely.

Just found this birth -

Births Sep 1911 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ELLIS Sophia Ellis W.Ham 4a 344

Could be that he had a daughter, but I've just had a look at that tree and there's no proof that this girl is his daughter. I also checked for a birth and can't find one for a Sophia Ellis 1902-04 in Kent or anywhere else in the country.
Even if he had a daughter doesn't mean he was married especially if the 1911 census shows him as single.

Paul Report 7 Jun 2009 21:34

i don't know - someone on ancestry has him in the family tree with a daughter sophia ellis born 1903 bt spouse unknown

Catherine Report 7 Jun 2009 21:31

I checked for birth for the two couples in the marriage records and found the following:-

Ellis - Aplin:-
Births Jun 1915 (>99%)
ELLIS Doris M I Aplin Bromley 2a 1004
Births Mar 1917 (>99%)
Ellis Robert W Aplin Bromley 2a 831
only two and last one is 1917 so it's a possible.

Ellis - Christmas:-
None so also possible.

Do you know if he had any children?

paul,
If he was married in 1911 it should be noted on the 1911 census. What exactly does it say, single , married (if so how many years?) divorced, widow ?

Paul

Paul Report 7 Jun 2009 21:21

i have viewed the record from 1911 census and he was living at 26 wingfield place sidcup with his sister sophia huntley and her husband andrew huntley. frederick is listed as a builders labourer.

he died in 1918 and on his d/c he was a golf caddie master!!

can't find if his wife remarried either.
thanks for your help catherine

Hi Paul,

Had a look at the marriage entries between 1910/1917, I can only see one Frederick Ellis (meaning no middle names) he married a Elizabeth Christmas SEPT QRT 1915 REF: 2A 1701 BROMLEY. WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS MAY BE WORTH LOOKING AT, AS YOU HAVE HIS FATHERS NAME FOR CROSS REF.

Another check on 1911 census does not show anyone living in the same house with Frederick but to be sure he is not married you would need to view the record.

If he is single then that would mean that he married between 1911 and 1918. A search for a marriage between these dates showed the following:-

Marriages Sep 1914 (>99%)
Aplin Elsie J (Ellis) Bromley 2a 1302
Ellis Frederick R (Aplin) Bromley 2a 1302

and this one
Marriages Sep 1915 (>99%)
Christmas Elizabeth Ellis Bromley 2a 1701
Ellis Frederick Christmas Bromley 2a 1701

so either could be correct, although he doesn't seem to have a middle name so 1915 record could be the correct one.

do you not have any other info about him which could confirm any of this info?

catherine thankyou - yes this is him. in the 1911 census he is shown as living with his sister at that address. but on his death certificate he shows his widow as e ellis at that address. i thougth he married after 1911 but now i'm not so sure as someone on ancestry have him with a daughter born 1903 but spouse unknown, i am baffled!! sorry the address they were living at was wingfield place sidcup
