I have been trying to trace my 3rd Great Grandfather back to France with no joy, I don't have a lot of infromation to go on, only name rough date of birth and place no town. I may also have a record of him coming back to England from France. My dad still wants answers about he's french connection, is there any one who could point me in the right direction on maybe find someone to trace the family back to France, or how to trace this family in France.

Alexander Bouic
Birth 1809 in Boulogne France
Death Jun 1852 in Greater London, Kent, London, United Kingdom

A Bowie
Port of Arrival: Southampton, England
Arrival Date: 27 Sep 1842
Port of Departure: Le Havre, France
Ship: Grand Turk

Final piece of the jig-saw unless anyone knows how to access the french collection this is the end of the road for the Bouic's althought it doesn't answer my dad's questions, but I have no Idea how to take it back to france to find out who was sending money over from france in the war.

James Andrew Peter Bouic died 25th Nov 1878 of Typhus Fever and two other conditions that I've not worked out yet, and YES he died at 6 Elephant Lane with Elizabeth by he's side.

Thank you everyone for your help x

From the IGI,these look like the right children of Alexander and Susan. I wonder if "Andrew" as the father on the 1851 census should read Alexander instead.?

Hi Theresa
On the census's I use Soundex and then trawl through and hope
I found the marriage of James and Elizabeth by taking the age of the eldest child to give me a rough idea of the year of marriage and then I just put in Elizabeth Amelia christian names only and again hope.
If you need anymore info please ask
Good luck with your research
best wishes

Thank you every one for all your help, I think MaureeninNY has found the Bouic family I was search for, and given me a new riddle to work out, why was May and her sister left with the Gobbett ? what happened to James & Elizabeth, did they return to France?

Thank you all again, you have given me the will to carry on with the search.

And a big thank you from my dad
