I am looking for info on William Keith (Bill as he was know) was born 19 march 1901 in (Leeds?) ( could of been know as willie keith when he was a child .1911 census He was aged 10 in a Institution in Wetherby Yorkshire. He married Elise May Sorensen . William ( Bill ) Keith died in 1972 in Leeds St James Hospital .Farther`s Name Frederick Born 1863 ?. According to williams marriage certificate his Father was a Bricklayer Building Contractor . We know he had a brother living in Leeds do not have his name, we think they where both born in Leeds .That is about all we know .

The Hall children are down as children of Frederick so maybe the mother Louisa had been married before.

Well, you are in luck - Fredericks Army Service Records are on Ancestry - All 11 pages of them.

I couldn't go through them all as Ancestry is on a 'go slow' at the moment and it was taking ages to download the pages, BUT, I did confirm that it was the one married to Louise Hall (nee Morton), who Christine found with son 'Willie' on 1901.

I had a look for his father Frederick's birth in Scotland but so far haven't found him

There is another Army service record for Frederick Keith enlisting 1880. On the 1914-1920 record it does say he had served before. The 1880 record gives place of birth as Leeds. Its not a very glorious record Frederick seems to have spent a lot of it in jail

Possible in 1871 although says born Leeds. Mother born Berwick, father Newcastle, Northumberland

Which site is the other service record on please - I didn't see it on Ancestry?

Just a thought, you say this record was dated 1880 - we have his year of birth as 1871 from the other Service Records ? - He would only have been 9 years old. Are you sure this is the same Frederick?

It's strange because the census shows him born 1863, first Army records are certainly correct but says born 1871, did he lie and say he was younger.

If the other is him then he said he was older to join up.

It looks like it might be the same one doesn't it?

Well,....... I can't see an 8 / 9 year old being believed as a 20 year old so I would guess
that he made himself younger when he joined up for the second time!

This would look a possible for the birth then:
