So if you are sure that the death record is the correct one then I would say that the Charles you are looking for is more likely to be the one with mother Maria and not the one with mother Martha.

I think you need to buy the death cert. to see who registered the death and see the address given at the time of death.

Just had a look at 1871 census and this could very well be Charles in 1871:-

Name: Charles Banyard

plus lots of other servants

same town as Mary Ann and correct registration district for death.

The only one I can't find is George Wickes born 1880 and who looks to be a twin of John. Can't see him yet in 1881 census or find a death record for him.

If I am not mistaken, I believe you have another thread asking for info for the name of Riches ?
If so then it looks as though you have a link here as the middle name of John born in 1880 is Riches.

Catherine

Catherine Report 24 May 2009 17:20

There is also a birth for a Louisa Mary Banyard but she is not with Mary in 1881 census. Here she is:-

Name: Louisa M. Banyard
Age: 6
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1875
Relation: Niece
Gender: Female
Where born: Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England

Civil Parish: Aldeburgh
County/Island: Suffolk
Country: England

Street address: High Street

Occupation: Scholar

Registration district: Plomesgate
Sub-registration district: Aldeburgh
ED, institution, or vessel: 8
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members:
Name Age
Charles Catman 49
Patience M. Catman 51
Louisa M. Banyard 6

If she is with Mary in 1891 then that would prove she is another child, otherwise you would have to buy the cert. or try and make a connection with the name Catman and Banyard or Wikes.
The name of the wife her is Patience which is also the name of a child of Mary in 1881 census, so......?

Catherine

Catherine Report 24 May 2009 17:07

From this 1881 census I would say that Charles married Mary Ann Wares:-

Name: Mary Ann Banyard
Age: 32
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1849
Relation: Head
Gender: Female
Where born: Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England

Civil Parish: Aldeburgh
County/Island: Suffolk
Country: England

Street address: Kings Head
Condition as to marriage: Windower (Widower)

Occupation: Innkeeper

Registration district: Plomesgate
Sub-registration district: Aldeburgh
ED, institution, or vessel: 8
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members:
Name Age
Mary Ann Banyard 32
Charlie Banyard 7
William Banyard 4
Patience Banyard 3
Thomas Banyard 2
John Banyard 1
Amy Read 17

Registration district is the correct one for the death record, and children are all born between 1872 and 1880, so looking good.

Catherine

Catherine Report 24 May 2009 17:01

These are all births Banyard in Plomesgate between 1872 and 1880, so all possible children of Charles:-

Births Jun 1873 (>99%)
Banyard Charlie Edward R Plomesgate 4a 687 xxxx
Births Dec 1874 (>99%)
BANYARD Louisa Mary Plomesgate 4a 676
Births Sep 1876 (>99%)
BANYARD William James Plomesgate 4a 709 xxxx
Births Mar 1878 (>99%)
Banyard Patience Jane Plomesgate 4a 723 xxxx
Births Mar 1879 (>99%)
Banyard Thomas Arthur Plomesgate 4a 748 xxxx
Births Mar 1880 (>99%)
BANYARD George _ickes Plomesgate 4a 786
BANYARD John Riches Plomesgate 4a 786 xxxx

very possible that the second name for George would be Wares, mothers maiden name ?

Catherine

Catherine Report 24 May 2009 16:55

There is this marriage in same district as the death, so a good possibility:-

Marriages Jun 1872 (>99%)
<<<Banyard Charles Plomesgate 4a 993
Chapman Bathshebah Plomesgate 4a 993
GREEN John Edmund Plomesgate 4a 993
Wares Mary Ann Plomesgate 4a 993

to know who he married you will have to buy the cert.
The cert. will also give his fathers name, if known.

Catherine

Catherine Report 24 May 2009 16:51

This is the only death record I could find in 1880

Deaths Dec 1880 (>99%)
Banyard Charles 31 Plomesgate 4a 437
The district Plomesgate is in the county of Suffolk

If you buy the cert. it will give the name of the person that registered the death. Could be his wife, if he married or could give some other clue.

Catherine

Catherine Report 24 May 2009 16:28

and this one would be the one from the christening record

Catherine

Catherine Report 24 May 2009 16:22

The birth is the only one I could find at that time, so "if" that is him then this could be him in 1851

Name: Charles Banyard
Age: 2
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1849
Relation: Grandson
Mother's Name: Martha
Gender: Male
Where born: Blakenham, Suffolk, England

Civil Parish: Claydon
County/Island: Suffolk
Country: England

Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 31
Household Members:

James Banyard 45 - Head
Martha Banyard 22 - daughter
Charles Banyard 2

possible that Charles was the illegitimate son of Martha ?

MargaretM
