ihave just checked 1911 cencus, i dont know why i dident do it before
and it looks like it is the right ELI,
eli tebbutt married aged 60 shoe laster born coventry
fred tebbutt married aged 25 shoe laster born coventry
fred would be alfred
they are living great russell street northmpton
so the eli who died in northampton in 1916 would be the right one,

just got in from work, what can i say, your amazing, i wouldent have half this information if it wasent for you, i am so greatfull for all your help,
do you think that eli might be the scarlet pimpernell,
i have access to 1911 cencus so please do not use up your credits,
just point me in the right direction,
my mum dont know a lot about her farthers side of the family,
but she seems to think that jack would have been the oldest
and there was possibly a kate, all very sketchy,
there is no eli,s registerd as being born 1849,
im going to send for that certificate,
i carnt wait to find out,

Have now found Jane and son George (Mistransribed as TIBBETT) 1901

1901 Greyfriars Lane Coventry
William Whitmore Head Single 51 Gen Labourer
Jane Tibbett 43 Silk Winder (Boarder)
George Tibbett 8 (Boarder) all born Coventry

BUT Eli Ernest Tebbutt (who clearly was a son of Eli and Jane) died in the same quarter he was born (!880 Dec) so cant be the Ernest aged 5 in 1891. Where is he in 1901 -in the same black hole as his father I think if we have ruled out the Coventry born one living in Northampton

Have now found Ernest -he was registered as
ELI Ernest Tebbutt 1880 Dec Q Coventry 6d 505

Jack is a pet name for JOHN and there is a John Tebbutt born 1902 Mar Q Coventry vol 6d page 536 -but why isnt he with his mother and brother in 1911 -he would be only 9 years old
He is listed as living in Coventry 1911 but Idont have any credits left to see who he is with

another mystery !!!!!
my mum recalls, that george tebbutt had a brother fred that fits with
alfred, and another brother JACK who served in the forces, and when left
the forces brought a farm and settled in south africa, where he later died
and jack having no family of his own, all the money was inherited by george and his brothers,
i can not find any trace of a jack tebbutt,
is there anyway of traceing deaths that accured in south africa,
we have no idea of where or when this death happened.

i have got birth certificate for eli, was born 1854,
and if you take death in 1914 aged 65 that would make it 1849, 5 years out suppose thats posible,
but 1901 he would have been 47 wouldent that be too old to be serving in the forces ???
i am going to search to see if any eli tebbutts come up as being born in 1849,

ps not on any cencus but he must have been around, all the children were born between these times, mystery

So far as I can see there is only one Eli Tebbutt born in Coventry in Dec Q 1854 -the other one was born in Northants, and the complication is that the Coventry one has moved to Northampton in 1901 if that is correct.
If I were you I would get the death cert for the one who died in 1914 if only to rule him out if the details dont match
I still think the most likely explanation id that he was serving abroad in the forces and possibly died abroad between 1901 and 1911

ITS ALL VERY CONFUSING, IF ITS THE RIGHT ELI WHO DIED 1914
THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE ELI TEBBUTT'S BORN IN COVENTRY
BUT IN DIFFERENT YEARS, BUT ONLY 1 REGISTERD DEATH THAT I CAN FIND??????
DONT KNOW WERE TO LOOK NEXT.

Eunice J Tebbutt died1916 Uppingham Leics, so if the 1901 census for Eli (spelt ELIE) is the right one he is telling fibs about being a widower
Of the children shown
William is married to Ellen in 1901 and living in Northampton working on Cycle gears
Alfred in 1901 is boarding in Towcester with the Barter family and he is shoemaker like his father
I cant trace a birth in the index for Ernest, nor can I find him 1901
And George is a complete mystery -there are no male Tebbutts born 1891/3 in Coventry in the Index and he doesnt seem to appear 1901 and nor does Eunice/ Jane

And I think this is her in 1891

But where was Eli ? Serving in forces?

Think I have found Eunice on 1881 census

I double checked with the 1871 and she is living with her grandmother Mary Ann on that census also
In 1881 she is with her grandmother again listed as Emma but if you look at original it is Eunice & her son Joseph W. Tebbutts b1875 no Eli though but Eunice is down as married

i have him on
1861 cencus
1871 cencus
and i know he marride eunice jane royle in 1874
then they dissapear,
and in the 1901 cencus it says hes a widower
but i have
1911 cencus which says
jane tebbutt head widow 61 silk winder
george tebbutt son 19 cap fitter
living at 63 white friars lane coventry

There is a Eli Tebbutt on 1901 census as a boarder living in Northamptonshire age given as Age 50 he was born in Coventry & a shoemaker so looks like he did live in that area

I realise the age doesn't match with one born 1854 but you asked what the age was as you couldn't make it out so that's why I posted it.
