Maralyn.
Sometimes it pays not to put an age when looking for someone. I put Edward Peniket living West Bromwich and he came up in Church Lane born 1824 not 1835

From the IGI Peniket name appears to come from Sussex but no Edward

Penketh is the Cheshire name

I'm getting a little confused now with all this information. The name seems to be heading in all directions. Bless you all all for trying to sort it out for me. I live in Cyprus and we are 2hrs ahead of the UK and I need to get some lunch. I will check again later this afternoon to see what other info turns up.

Grant

Grant Report 30 Oct 2012 08:48

This reply comes rather late, but I have a probable answer to the reason for Edward Peniket's move from Brighton to West Bromwich. His occupation was that of iron worker. Ashdown Forest in Sussex was originally one of the main centres of iron production in England, but with the coming of the Industrial Revolution the abundant supplies of coal and iron in the Midlands (and elsewhere) meant that the Sussex iron industry faded into obscurity.

It is most probable that Edward Peniket moved to West Bromwich to continue in the occupation in which he was skilled when employment prospects in Sussex ceased.

Incidentally, my wife is a direct descendant of Edward Peniket.
