Could some kind person please try to find John Veitch, boot and shoemaker ,in 1861 in Scotland. In 1851 he is in Inveresk age 49 born Midlothian with wife Elizabeth or Eliza age 33,son Peter 7,daughter Eliza 5,son John 3.In 1841 this might be him John Veitch 45 shoemaker,Jane Veitch 80,Isabella Veitch(maybe a sister) age 40,all born Midlothian. He is still alive at the time his daughter Violet married 5-7-1861.Many thanks, |

Thank you very much,Vera. Can I ask if it is possible to search by occupation on the 1851 and 1861? ie.can one find whether there were any other John Veitch-shoemakers in southern Scotland at the time? |

thanks a lot,Vera.don't know whether either one fits given there is no occupation but it is possible he had a son Robert in the 1830s,not registered. The Violet I have marrying my gggrandfather James Inglis in 1861 says her father was John Veitch shoemaker ,mother Catherine Inglis deceased.Violet was born in Biggar but again no registration .Where was the Robert born -does it say? |

I'm not sure,Vera, but my James Inglis has connections with all three places-he says he was born in Musselburgh,Inveresk(where John Veitch comes from if he is the right shoemaker):he was living in Biggar with his first wife in 1841,: he was in Eddleston ,Peebleshire in 1851 and then married Violet in Edinburgh in 1861 and in the 61 and 71 censuses was living in Peebles town. All this Veitch searching is because Violet says her mother was an Inglis so I'm guessing she ,Violet, was some sort of cousin-late marriage to a widower . |

Hey,Vera, you're on a roll! That's an interesting one for the two boys,Inglis and Veitch. Can it be a coincidence? I also had a Catherine Veitch age 14 in Biggar in 1841,maybe a sister of Violet's since the mother was a Catherine.Trouble is knowing how to prove anything. |
