Thank you Choccy, I will contact the tree owner on Monday (see my message). Your help is so kind and is greatly appreciated! Thank you for helping me with this!

Peter, as you now have access to the Ancestry tree, you might like to contact the owner to let her know that Nathanial was probably not the father of George, but George was from Annie's first marriage to Alfred Bage and he was actually born George Bage. Unless, of course, you have the birth certificate for George which shows that Nathanial is George's father.

I note that the tree owner does not have any certificates or census information on her tree.

Peter,
If you have found the tree presumably you don't need any more help?
I have found it as well!

Peter

Peter Report 16 May 2009 17:50

I see why - I have just found the tree! Parents says 'Nathanial Langburn Wood' and 'Clara or Annie Featherstone'. This must be the same ... did you get my message?

Choccy Report 16 May 2009 17:45

Think I need to go to SpecSavers. I can't find a tree with George on with parents, Alfred Bage and Annie Featherstone, or Nathaniel and Annie.

When did you last look? Perhaps it's been deleted. I can't see any private trees either, where access is denied anyway!

Give me some more clues ..

Hi, I am not aware if George married, and the common name of George Wood has made searching for him difficult; I know I am not much help with this one, which is why I came here. Thank you for your help

I'm on the Ancestry site at the moment, and I haven't found a photo of him, but I will have another look

Choccy Report 16 May 2009 17:35

Did George marry and if so, when? Would he have gone to NSW with a wife and family? If he did marry, did he marry using the name Bage or Wood, do you know?

I'm excited as I was told the ancestry source had a picture of Geogre (which I have never seen), and now ancestry won't load on this pc! I will have to get my own laptop as library services are quite poor for us students!

Peter Report 16 May 2009 17:31

Yes the 1891 is correct, and in 1901 the family are living in Essex Street. Thank you for this help.

My apologies - yes, Annie had married Alfred Bage in 1872, and was stated as a widower in 1888 (I suspect that she and Alfred had 'broken up', and that they both remarried, i.e. were bigamists). I can't find a death for Alfred Bage, and I have found a possible marriage later on.

Annie died in 1917 and Nathaniel in 1903.

George Bage was christened George Wood with his younger brother Harry/Henry in 1889, with Nathaniel and Annie been recorded as the parents.

I already have tried, but I am on a pc in the library (full time student, so don't have my own), and the site won't load. I have looked previously to no avail.

Dear all,

My relation George Wood was born George Bage in 1884 in Norton, Durham, before his parents married a few years later in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.

His parents were Nathaniel Langburn Wood, and Annie Featherstone, and the family were living in Middlesbrough in 1891, and 1901. Nathaniel died in an industrial accident and Annie died after an accident at home.

I have been unable to find anything out about George Wood after 1901, but it has been drawn to my attention he may have died in Dundas, N.S.W. Australia on 7 Dec 1958. A friend wrote me this information from ancestry but they never kept the link. I am not used to ancestry, and don't know how to find this, although I have tried. I would love to make contact with a relation from this branch of my family.

I would love to find out more, as I descend from George's brother Harry (1889-1953), and the brothers had a sister Elsie born 1893.

Can anyone help please?

Best wishes,

Peter
