Now interestingly the image tells a little more than the transcript. Looks like Margaret is Hy's sibling. There is a ditto under Nephew, i think the enumerator is trying to say 'sibling' inferring the Nephew duplicate to be neice??

For both parties to carry the McGill surname it's safe to assume Hy is the son of one of John McGill's male siblings. (unless it's a comlicated issue and Hy is the base child of one of john's sisters!!)

How many male siblings have you traced for John?

Who are John's parents?....can you please post some data so we can help you more.

Mark Report 15 May 2009 19:21

I have located a Hy ( henry or harry !!) McGill in the 1851 Census who is listed as the nephew of John mcGill ( 1802) born in Middlesex area London in approx 1830.
I cannot find any Hy McGill in any other census or his parents, could someone possibly help me in this matter , even if it is just confirmed that he isn`t about. I would love to make the connection between Hy Mcgills dad anfd John Mcgill 1802 born in Scotland.
I do possibly have Johns other sibblings born in Edinburgh Scotland but i cant be 100% until i can find Hy dad.

Thank you ... Mark
