Hi Carol

I have had a look at the crew lists held at the National Archives at Kew. For this period they are held by the Port of Registry of the ship. After 1857 they are stored by "Official Number" which makes it a bit easier to find them. I am more familiar with these.

If for instance the ship Six Brothers was registered at Caernarvon, the crew lists will be in BT 98/2870 for 1852 along with others in the range N to S, also at Caernarvon. I found this from the TNA research guide on the merchant navy and the catalogue.

I am not sure how to find the port of registration, maybe in the Lloyds Register or the Mercantile Navy List.
