NinjaLady, thankyou. That turns things right on their heads. That means he was a cousin on the female (Smith) side of the family, not the male(Jones) side. No, that isnt a joke. My grandmother was a Miss Jones, who married a Mr. Smith, and her mother was a Miss Smith who married a Mr. Jones. Researching can be quite difficult! Thanks again. |

Thats fantastic. I keep forgetting that stuff isnt always spelt the same way. I will learn, no doubt, as I keep on researching, but thats just the info I wanted. I know they had a tough time in the 14 18 war, so with that name too, I thought he might have a german father. |

I have had almost no luck tracing an ancestor, Edward George Friehold. He was married to an Alice Berry, born 1870 in Marylebone, and he was an antiquarian bookseller, again in Marylebone I think. I have a letter from him dated 1908(not written to me, I hasten to add) and he was my grandmothers close friend and cousin.I would be really grateful for any help, especially date of birth and parents names. Mother likely to have been a Miss Jones, but not neccesarily. |
