Hi trying to find the parents and siblings of emily,all i know about her is believe she was born c1865 in bower hinton somerset and she married a Thomas Shoemark b 1866 sometime in 1888 i know most of their children just really want info on emily.

Yes i have seen this one but not really sure as this emily born stoke-sub-hamdon and when you search the name their are a few emily`s born a few years each side so not too sure,but thanks anyway.

I think this is my emily on that census but i really want her earlier years and no i havent brought the marriage cert wanted to aviod the added expense if possible.

If you order the cert from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ it will only cost you £7 and should take about a week to arrive.

Can't find her in 71 at the moment. I can see plenty of Gaylards but not in Bower Hinton! Will keep looking.

That is really kind of you, i have had a look but i only found emily from stoke and then nothing.

The trouble is there are quite a few gaylards and they all had big families so i dont really know if that is her sister.

I have come across these two before emily e gaylard i believe lived in stoke as i have accidently traced her by mistake thinking she was my emily, i realise that these two villages are pretty close together so maybe they are the same emily i will have to carry on hunting her down.

I've found this entry in the 1871 census .... the district this census covers in Martock is Bower Hinton. Perhaps the enumerator wrote their surname as he heard it .... if they were like many of my ancestors the family wouldn't know whether it was written correctly or not!!!

Checking through the 1871 for the name Gaylard it appears that many have been mis-transcribed as Gillard and corrections have been added. Is it possible that her family in the 1871 is listed as Gillard which is the way it would have been pronounced and written down by the census recorder. There is an Emily Gillard in Martock which is the nearest town I think in the 1871. A possibility.

Possible yes the villages are right next door to each other.

Bower hinton today still comes under martock in the postal area, so yes its a maybe. Thanks.

Looking at the actual census image it says at the top of the page "Town of Martock. Village Bower Hinton"
