Duncan Ronald Norman Robertson was the son of Duncan and Ronelda. The other birth for 1911 Janet Eveline Robertson was their daughter.

Aileen Report 25 Oct 2010 23:24

Appointment made for Thursday afternoon at the registrar's, there is another birth for Robertson in Killin, a female 1911 which I can check out too.

Well done Dee - I never think about the phone books on Ancestry and it is all looking good.

Let us know how you get on Aileen. So many Robertsons in Scotland! I know from personal experience OH's maternal side were Robertsons from Leith and from the 1700s first born sons were named alternately William or James right up to the 1970s- with no middle names!

Thank you ladies, you are as always total stars.....I am certain you have found the right people but I always like to have the documentary evidence so I will order that death cert on Wednesday (payday).....and hopefully visit the registrar's to check out the birth.
Thank you again

Hi rootgatherer,

oops didn't realise that about Scotlandspeople........ bit of a downer there, but I really think this maybe the son, firstly Killin is the right area for is birth reg, marriage in the death reg of Ronelda and then Launton for the area living in, what do you think??

Me again,

just found this;

That looks really hopeful Dee - well done! Just a pity that only births prior to 1909 are available to view online at Scotlandspeople so it means ordering the certificate and waiting .................

Hi Aileen,

excellent news on the death cert and I did wonder about a possible death for the son.......... this maybe nothing but on the other hand it maybe worth checking it out....

England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005 about Duncan Ronald N Robertson
Name: Duncan Ronald N Robertson
Birth Date: 28 Aug 1914
Death Registration Month/Year: Jul 2002
Age at death (estimated): 87
Registration district: Oxfordshire
Inferred County: Oxfordshire
Register number: J01D
District and Subdistrict: 6951J
Entry number: 299

Named after his mother and father???

Now there is a corresponding birth in Scotland that ties in with this chap and it was registered in Killin...... which would tie in with Kenmore??. If you were to go onto Scotlandspeople it may rule him in or better still confirm if my gut feeling is correct??

AND............ there is a marriage for the above chap in 1943 in Oxford and the registration district is Ploughley, where Ronelda's death was registered!!!

Hi Rootgatherer

there was an address, same for both Ronelda and her son. 22 Sherwood Close, Launton.
I went there virtually with Google but it appears to be a new housing estate which looks more recent than 1963

Aileen - was there an address for Duncan the son on Ronelda's death certificate please?

Aileen

Aileen Report 25 Oct 2010 10:06

*UPDATE*

I received the death certificate today..

Ronelda Robertson died 05/02/1963 widow of Duncan Robertson....so it has to be her (I wish English certs gave as much info as Scottish ones)....cert was signed by Duncan Robertson (son). Now I will have to try to find him....which wont be easy as I have no idea when or where he was born....

Aileen Report 6 Oct 2010 10:51

Hi Rootgatherer,
I don't know of any children.....that is something I hope to find out... I have checked Scotland'sPeople for possible children but found nothing that grabbed my attention. I had hoped to go to the registrar's today but that has been postponed due to circumstances.

rootgatherer Report 6 Oct 2010 09:47

Aileen, I am just wondering if Ronelda moved to England to live with some of her married children after Duncan died? Do you know how many children (if any) they had please? Is it possible to look for marriages of their children to get an idea of an area?

Aileen

Aileen Report 5 Oct 2010 12:56

Thank you BatMansDaughter...unfortunately he didn't have a middle name. I have had a look and you are correct there are quite a few possibles for Duncan....I will wait and see if Ronelda's death cert gives any further information before I try to find which is the most likely. I wish English records were the same as Scottish ones and I could view on-line any before 1958 as I'm sure Duncan would have pre deceased Ronelda

BatMansDaughter

BatMansDaughter Report 5 Oct 2010 12:43

A possible death for Duncan, unfortunately there seem to be quite a few Duncan Robertsons, did he have a middle name?

Aileen

Aileen Report 5 Oct 2010 12:29

Rootgatherer....thank you too....both these records are for my aunt... the name chages with almost every record....I have birth and marriage certs

Birth is Ronelda MacDonell.....which is the correct spelling the marriage is Ronaelda McDonell which is wrong on both names.
I have also seen the surname spelt McDonnell and MacDonnell

edit......the census has Ronelda's brother in law's surname wrong too it was actually Swanston.....lol
