I've searched everywhere I can think of for your Robert McFiggins. Can't find birth or marriage.

The 1857 Directory of Ontario shows a John and a Malcolm McFiggins at William St., Cobourg, Ontario, both plasterers.

From Reid's marriage notices of Ontario:
At Bytown, on 3rd. ultimate, John McFiggens of Cobourg, to Miss Fairbairn, of Nepean Co., Carleton. (Rev. J. Cruikshanks)
(This was dated 1 April, 1835, so I guess 3rd ultimate was 3rd March. Bytown was the old name for Ottawa, now capital of Canada, Nepean is now part of Ottawa.)

I am pretty sure that these two Malcolm's are uncle and nephew.

Confusing! There seems to be 2 Malcolm McFiggins liviing in Ontario.
One born 28 april, 1837, died 19 Aug.1912, Cobourg, age 75 years, 3 months, 21 days,
Another born 1823, Scotland, died 16 Jan.1898, Colborne, age 75 years.

I have seen it written as McFiggins,McFiggin,McFigon,McFigan which isn't helpful I know.
Is it possible that these marriage records could have been lost or destroyed in some way. As I seem to have come up against a brick wall

Yes thats the correct Malcolm - he is John's brother and his parents are correct.- Malcolm and Elizabeth Mcfiggins - trying to find any record of these 2 before 1837 Ontaria census.

Searching for Robert McFiggins born about 1859 in Canada - died New York 1890 aged 31.
Robert married Flora Mclean in Canada but I am trying to establish from any records who Robert's parents were and when the marriage took place - I am hoping the records will show that his parents were Scottish - John and Ellen Mcfiggins.

Also searching for father John McFiggins born c1811 anytime before the 1837 Ontario census when I first have record of him. He went over to Canada from Scotland but I don't know when - his brother Malcolm also emigrated he was born 1823.
