thanks Catherine but sorry not him. His wife's name was Ann Ward. I have a birth certificate of one of his daughters and the baptism records of 9 of his children. I have just written to Liverpool to ask them to check the registers of the church where all his children and previuosly his wife were baptised (plus the marriage of his in-laws). Unfortunately the registers at our CRO do not go quite far enough - they finish at 1841 and their 1st child was born in 42 so could have been that year. |

Only birth I could find for an Annie G. Edwards, anywhere between 1865 and 1867:- |

This is the only marriage I could see for a William Cartwright between 1841 and 1851 in Liverpool:- |

I have looked for Sarah's marriage before but have only just found it as the page no was mistranscribed. I think spending some cash on her marriage cert might be a good idea to confirm her parents. |

I have just about everything on brother William (born 1814) from 1841onwards except his marriage. By 1841 he was a policeman (unmarried but living next door to his future wife) in Liverpool where he remained for the rest of his life. |

By the way, the Annie in 1871 census is noted as Visitor! |

thanks Catherine that certainly looks right for 1871. I wonder if 170 Lee Rd was the actual address of the Old Cemetery which is how it is described in 1861 & 81. I have just looked at 1881 again and looked at the households either side which all seem to be uninhabited and firms names such as Gt Western Railway premises. |

in 1861 John was a solicitor's clerk and in 1881 he was registrar of B'ham general cemetary. I think Sarah only had one child Hannah in c1859 |
