I looked and looked but could not find Jane before her marriage. There was a Jane Nesbit, servant, on the 1881, but who knows whether that was her?

There was also a Jane Nesbit with mother on an earlier census, no father there.

I wonder if she was telling porkies, and there wasn't a father?

I will try anything at this stage as I have been trying with this for months now,off and on.

Yes that is them.
and yes Edward was married before.
Lily (age 1 on the 1901 census) is my grandmother.


I have tried to find jane on earlier census to hopefully find her on one with her parents, but I can`t find her.

Its for james Nisbet b. about 1845 (pure guesswork)
He was a miner on daughters marriage cert. ( march 1891)

You can search the 1881 census by address and on the official 1901 census site you can search by address but this is pay per view.

It is possible to search most of the other census years by address but it is a very long winded process and is easier if your ancestors lived in a small village rather than a large city where there would be many enumeration districts to search through.
