Find Ancestors

I am having the greatest difficulty in tracing Laura Taylor on 1891 and 1881 census. This is what I have on 1901 census:

40 Third Avenue, Goole, Yorkshire
John Taylor 48 b. York,Yorkshire? Sailor seas
Elizabeth 42 wife b. Sunderland
Laura 16 dau b. Goole, Yorks
Lily M. 12 dau b. Goole
Gertrude 9 dau b. Goole
Doris 6 dau b. Goole
John 2 son b. Goole

Try as I might I cannot find any member of this family on either 91 or 81 census. Would anyone be prepared to have a go? Thank you.

Was Elizabeth married to John by the 1881 census if Laura was born in abt 1884

well I have had a dig around and I canlt find any of them either!!! someone will though - they always do

Have had a hunt around and believe the marriage took place March Qtr 1884 so they should be on 1891 census somewhere !!

So Elizabeths maiden name is Brook then

Yes Julie, at the time she married John Taylor she was Brook although I believe she was born Brown so had ovbiously been married before.

What was John Occupation & his dads name..this wil help to find him on the 1881

All I know of John's occupation is as it says on 1901 census - sailor seas... whatever that means. John's father was I believe a Robert Taylor b. abt 1827

So the Taylor/Brooks marriage isn't confirmed then

Kay - Eureka, you've found them. The next child down from Laura, who is actually Laura Elizabeth, was indeed Lily May. Many many thanks for that. I don't know how on earth you did it, but I'm most grateful. I've been tearing my hair out.

So i take it you haven't confirmed their marriage

And the Occupation & where john was born doesn't match, I also hope we never have a tree match

I haven't got the marriage certificate Julie but the marriage is there on Freebmd as March 1884 Goole and Laura's name is indeed Laura Elizabeth with a younger sister Lily May..

But that doesn't confirm anything how do you know that that John didn't marry Martha that is also in the Qtr

how do you know that that Elizabeth Brook is the Elizabeth Brown you mentioned in one of your posts

With a surname of Taylor i wouldn't just assume, but it's your tree not mine
