Hi, does anyone have any info or could anyone help in tracing the parents of a WillIam Lines, born 1856 died 1902, married Mary Jane Ealey born 1858 died 1918. I would like to find the parents and siblings of William Lines. I am pretty new to this, so any help would be grately appreciated.

Where is your info from?

There were close to a dozen William Lines-s born 1852. If your info is from a census, it's more likely he was born 1851.

Where was he born? Oops - did I miss "born Hull"?

There's a birth in Sep quarter 1852 in Hull. That certificate would give you his parents' names. But you need his marriage certificate to make sure the father's name matches.


When and where did they marry? As NinjaLady says, there's no marriage apparent in the GRO index.

Is it possible Mary Jane had been married before, and remarried under a different surname? Do you have her surname from a child's birth certificate?

Can you give their children's names, to help find the household in censuses?

I'm not entirely sure the 1861 census is the correct William. The 1901 census shows him living at home with Mary A Lines (mother) and appears to show him as unmarried.

Blast Ancestry. She doesn't belong to the Golby household. She is on her own.

Widow, charwoman. "Widowed" may or may not be true, of course.

So she *was* married, but not when she had William. Or so it seems.

My current bet is that Jane was his grandmother, not his mother, and Emerson was his father's surname.

An ancestor of mine had a child before she married, in that area of Northamptonshire, around that same time. The father's surname is on the birth certificate. You might strike it equally lucky, Susan.

William Lines from *Towcester* has independent existence in 1891 and 1901, married to Sarah. !! (with a son named Owen, so we can trace the connection back to the 1841 household)

And our William's DOB per this census is *not* 1852 or close, it's 1856.
