anyone know history of william raymond who served in nsw/van demansland..1810-1814
served in ceylon;1814-1821.
arrived; galle,on the transport general hewitt 8 th august 1814.
retired by sale on the 25th nov 1828..returned uk/ireland..hope someone might have a bit of history....

this is what i have........... commissioned;ensign[derry militia]no date given.lieutenant [no date] ensign [73regiment] transferred from militia 26th october 1807,lieutenant [73rd] 3rd february 1809,,,captain[73rd]17th august1820,,,,half pay on reduction 25th august 1821,,,,,,full pay[73] 8th april 1825,,,,,retired[ by sale]25th november1828.
served in nsw/vdl,1810-1814.
served in ceylon,1814-1821.

arrived, galle, on the transport general hewitt 8th august 1814.
general hewitt sailed from sydney via new guinea,new britain,moluccas; 5th april 1814.

So he was an Army Officer. His record may be at the National Archives - not online, though, you'd have to go there or get someone to go for you.

would anyone have information on the h.m.s orwell my grt grt grandfather from cork city was 68 years old in 1911 census..it states retired pension officer on the H.M.S ORWELL...he was jeremiah o.sullivan..................dont know where to look..please help.

Four ships of the Royal Navy have borne the name HMS Orwell, after the River Orwell in Suffolk, England

HMS Orwell was a Britomart-class wooden screw gunboat launched in 1866 and sold in 1890.
HMS Orwell was a B-class torpedo boat destroyer launched in 1899, purchased in 1901 and sold in 1920.
HMS Orwell was an O-class destroyer launched in 1942, converted to a Type 16 frigate in 1952 and sold in 1965.
HMS Orwell was a River-class minesweeper launched in 1985. She was sold to Guyana in 2001 and renamed Essequibo.

Do you know when/where william raymond was born?

there's one born essex 1781 in suffolk/essex on the Chelsea pensioners list on FMP
