Thanks so much Thomas for checking it out. Child bed...assuming that means she died in childbirth poor woman. I too wondered why her husband was not the informnat, perhaps he was overcome with gried or was working..hard times back then I guess.
Jackie glad that I am not the only one who does that!
Thank Evie for the 1891 census information.
Thanks everyone!

Great stuff, Thomas! I didn't realize you had such access. I'm going to have to think of something I need in the Scottish records now ... and I think I know of something. ;)
For info (from the previous thread), the household in 1891:
Thomas McCall 47 - General Labourer Agnes McCall 38 Annie McCall 17 - last child of deceased Annie Agnes Bell McCall Elizabeth McCall 11 - first child of Thomas's second wife Agnes Samuel McCall 8 Alexander McCall 6 Catherine McCall 4 Agnes McCall 2 Robert McCall 10 Mo
So it would seem that Annie died in childbirth and the child was stillborn or died in infancy.
No McCall or McCaul birth registered in Barrhead in 1877, and only the one McCaul death, so stillbirth seems likely.

Hi Rachelle
I found the record and you were right it was difficult to read so I had the actual register checked and can confirm the following;
Registered in the District of Barrhead in the County of Renfrew
Annie McCaul, married to Thomas McCaul, Gas Holder Maker. 1977 July Nineteenth, 3h 0m A.M. Main Street Barrhead. Female, 32 years. No Parental details given. Cause of Death - Child Bed, not certified. Registered by Margt Stevenson, Main Street, Barrhead, Neighbour, Present. on 20th July 1877 by Thos Watson Registrar.
The neighbour probably didn't know the parents details. Not sure why her husband did not register the death?

Thnaks Thomas & Jackie.
The writing is very blurry so I'm not sure if it has not scanned very well when they did it for the image or if the page is really that hard to read!
Probably sounds silly but I record all of the causes of death when I find them so I have a better "medical" tree for my family to see.
Thank you
Rachelle

You can highlight areas on the actual image and make them bigger with the tools at the top of the page to make the writing easier to read

When I said I don't have access to the records...yes I have access to the English Indexes but not to the certificates unless I pay. In my job I have actual access to all Scottish BMD & CP certificates, all OPR's , Services Returns from the war and some consular returns. Also divorces since 1984.
I have exhausted all of my Scottish searches so I enjoy helping people find their Scottish records. When I search the records I actually bring up the register page and can check immediately if parentage, dates etc match. Helpful for common names. I did also search under the name of McAll but didn't think of McCaul. I'll have a wee look tomorrow. So before you go spending your cash I will check out the one Jeanette found for you and let you know tomorrow. This is easily checked because, as Jacqueline said, in the first column of the death entry on Scottish death certificates all previous and existing spouses are named. And although the date of birth is not given the age always is.
I will also check the cause of death and see if it is clearer on the fiche.

Hi Jackie,
Thanks so much the name variation was the correct record. I can see that Annie died on 19 July 1877. I can't read what caused her death as the image is very blurry. I can make out the word child and then the words not certified. Maybe her death resulted after the birth of her daughter Annie on 1 May 1873. Does anyone know if you can get a clearer image from Scotlands people? I am happy to order the original but if the image is no clearer than this scanned one I will leave it.
Thank you so much for your help, and for everyone's kind suggestions. I had checked both the English and Scottish records without any luck but hadn't tried the variation in the surname as Jackie found.
One mystery solved!

Hi Evie Scottish Death certs give the name and age of the person at time of death (no date of birth which is annoying) their address if it differs from the address they died at usual stuff time and cause even doctor who called it sometimes appears and the names of both parents also noted is the releationship of the person registering the death and their address at the time most of the certs that I have found for my tree also give details of spouse naming them even if they were dead before the relative in question.

Oh, Thomas, you do too have access to English records!
FreeBMD is free to one and all, and fast and fun. Well, most of the time. ;)
http:www.freebmd.org.uk
I just checked again in case we hadn't tried that in the other thread, but nope, no Annie McCall death in the period.
I think Jeanette is onto the right thing with that McCaul. It's the exact right time and place, and the name sounds exactly the same when you say it.
I guess if Rachelle pays the fee to see the actual record, it should say something about husband/parents or some such?

There is only one Annie McCAll registered for all of Scotland for the years 1873 to 1878. I don't think this is the one though as she is only 11 years old. I also tried under the maiden surname of Bell and didn't find the record.
A suggestion. My G G G G grandfather also born in Cumbria came over to Dumfries where our Scottish family history then started. I found all the records for siblings and decendents and the only thing I couldn't find was his death record. I then got a link through someone here on GR and it turns out he actually returned to Cumbria to visit relatives and died whilst there. So I got his death record from English records. It may be that Annie died in England. I only have access to all Scottish records so can't check this for you. Maybe some kind GR member can check the English death records for you for that period.

There is only one Annie McCall death in Scoltands People between your two dates it is in 1874 but to view index and cert you would need to buy credits. I tried between 1874 and the marraige of daughter in 1894 but here are none showing up so it may be worth viewing the 1874 one even although it is not showing up as in any of the districts that you have covered ie Glasgow, Lanark or Renfrew
Good Luck

I thought it best to start this thread as some of that information in my old post was completely incorrect.
Yes I did make some progress in that I have established Thoams has been married twice but I wrote that here so there would be no need to go back to an earlier posting.
I can't recollect any information in there about Annie's death date. I had never asked that in my earlier threads and I thought you are allowed to make a post about a new subject?
I am not asking information I already know and I am not asking for any work to be done, I just thought someone may have an idea where I could search next, a site etc.
Sorry if I have made an error I really did think you could make a new post about a new topic.

Come come come!
We have been here before -- and all over the ground here.
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1123077
People *will* do that work all over again, just to establish the facts, if they can't see it laid out for them.
I see you have gained some ground since that thread. What you really should have done is add this post to that thread, so all the info is there.
I'd recommend copying your opening post into that thread, and deleting this one. It's really only fair.

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone could pelase give me some advice on where I can look next.
I am trying to locate the death of Annie Agnes McCall.
This is what I know of her so far:
On 12.11.1864 she married Thomas McCall in Wigton, Cumberland, England. Her maiden name was Bell and her father is listed as William Bell. Her age at marriage is 21so assuming her year of birth is 1843.
She next appears in the 1871 Scottish census living at Main Street Neilston Barrhead, Scotland with Thomas and three children, John, James and Thomas (aged 5,3 and 1). I believe a daughter Annie Bell McCall was born on 01.05.1873 in Renfrewshire.
Annie then I assume dies between 1873 and 1878. I am assuming this because Thomas then marries an Agnes Buchanan on 9.9.1878 in Lanark and he has a marital status of widower at this time.
I cannot locate a death record using Scotlands People, the Free BMD or Ancestry.
Would anyone have any ideas where I could look next?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
