Does anyone know the answer to the above? I'm stuck back at an ancestor who was born in 1722 and am wondering whether I would be able to get hold of a birth certificate as far back as that. |

Registration didn't start until 1837 and didn't become compulsory until 1875 so there are no birth certificates for the date you give. All you can hope for is a baptism record from parish records (In England and Wales). In Scotland registration began in 1855. |

Don't worry about it Robert...when I joined GR 4 years ago I made the same mistake...I got shot down in flames...nothing changes I'm afraid!! It took me ages to post again on the boards! |

That's true, the problem is with the way the GR site works as it doen't tell you if a reply has been posted to a thread, it's a complete pain! |

It amazes me that the ones you see saying don't worry about it are the ones you never see helping pmsl |

Just looked through the thread again. I didn't have a problem with what Julie had written...Julie merely stated that one thread was enough....it was the next post that started quoting T&C's that seemed a bit official. |
