Find Ancestors

I have Thomas Brooks (1851) married to Mary Grindey in Sept 1872. I have together in 1881 (Leek, Staffs) & 1891 (Aston, Warwickshire). My problem is I cannot find Mary before this time. I have tried to find a birth to no avail. Without this I have no chance of finding parents, siblings etc to follow the line back further.

Any suggestions/help would be very much appreciated.

In 1881 she is shown as being 29 yrs old which would estimate the yob as 1852. It wouldnt be unrealistic for 1850 to be right although I know that Thoma was born in March 1851 and is listed as 30 in 1881. Would they really say that she was youger than her husband?
