Hi,

I'm in Australia and only have a UK heritage subscription. I can see there is a USA record but unfortunately can't access details.

Mary Neil Houston is on the New York Passenger Lists 1820 -1957.

Could anyone please give me details?

Thanks, Fiona

Thanks both- I just typed a reply but it seems lost.

Mary was my grandmother's cousin - I have some anecdotal info but obviously not all as I didn't know her mother traveled to USA as well.

The time lines are odd - Mary goes to USA in 1926, arrives back in Scotland with her mother in July 1929, arrives back in New York August 1929 then arrives back in Scotland November 1930 as 22yo housewife Mary McKenzie with 3mo William... a very pacy year!

Could someone give me any details of her mother's arrival(s) in New York?? (Catherine Houston b Scotland 1879/1880 )

THANKS AGAIN<Fiona

PS definitely correct family as 11 William St Johnstone is Catherine's parents/ Mary's grandparents address from their death certificates in 1930's and 1940's

Fiona

Fiona Report 28 Feb 2009 15:57

Have now looked at Mary Houston's siblings wondering who else went to USA without my grandmother mentioning it.

Stewart Houston b 1902/1903 returned to Scotland from USA June 1924 on the Tuscania, and returned to Scotland again April 1932 on the California. (I think the 1932 one is still him, but he has a wife Mary and they are going to a different Johnstone address)

Could someone please find the voyages Glasgow to New York that came before the above? I don't have a death for him in Scotland - so I guess he could have made a 3rd trip after 1932.

Final 2 brothers John PirrieHouston and Robert Pirrie Houston also on New York Passenger Lists - any info welcome as my grandmother's cousin's are now turning into a complicated mess!

:) Fiona

OK - the 3rd Stewart whose mother is Annie living at Thornhill, Johnstone isn't mine as the mother is Catherine (which also means the one returning to the UK in 1932 To Thornhill with wife Mary also isn't mine)

The other 2 are him though as they have the William St Johnstone address.

Thank you so much for them! I think everyone that came back toScotland now also has a departure :)

My last question would be if the father Stewart Houston (bc1877) that is listed as Stewart Houston's NOK went overseas at all?

Fiona

Fiona Report 28 Feb 2009 16:55

I've tried a bit of a time line

1923 Stewart travels Scotland to USA
1924 Stewart comes back to Scotland
1924 Stewart travels Scotland to USA
1926 Robert travels Scotland to USA
1926 Mary travels Scotland to USA
1928 Catherine (mother) and John travel together Scotland to USA (so now all are their except the father?? also Stewart)
1929 Catherine and Mary come back to Scotland together
1929 Mary travels Scotland to USA
1930 Mary and John and Mary's baby son William come back to Scotland (leaving Mary's "husband"?, Stewart and the possible family you found for him in the 1930 census and Robert still in USA?)

My grandmother left out a LOT!

Ok, back after sleep - I stayed up until 4.30am (shhh - I'm not telling my husband)

Stewart was born on November 13 so I'd say that is his death.

And a husband for Mary - I wasn't expecting a name - Simon may be harder to trace than Lemon, lol!

Fiona

Fiona Report 1 Mar 2009 00:35

Is anyone able to find a Simon McKENZIE OR MacKenzie born Scotland 1903/4 who arrived in USA (probably New York) in 1923?

I've looked on Scotland's People and there are a few possibilities - so if his arrival lists a place of birth or next of kin I may be able to identify him.

Thanks :) Fiona

What I'm still asking for help with -

entry of Simon to USA with any identifying information so I can try and find him in Scotland previously and

any other possibilities for Robert in 1930 USA census - since he definitely remained there as I found his death

Thanks,

Fiona
