Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! JaneyCanuck - your roundabout way of searching finally resulted in a truly positive find. Your link from Emma Franklin to my Edward King led me to search for a town called Darenth, which is listed as the town Edward was living in at age 1. I figured that if he was only one at time of census the chances are good that he was born there. Luckily, Darenth is one of the towns that is on the Medway Council site of parish records. Wouldn't you know it, but I found the baptism record for Edward Abraham King in 1840 and his parents were William and Matilda. I have since found out that his mother's maiden name was Barber and apparently she came from Herfordshire. Now the search deepens. Thanks again and all the best in your own family search. |

Janey - you must forgive me for not knowing my counties very well. I am learning though! We only have ten provinces in Canada so it is easy to know them all. England has such a long and rich history and the counties have changed somewhat over the centuries. Hertfordshire would make much more sense as far as proximity to Kent goes. Herefordshire is quite a ways from Kent county. I will check things out some more. Thanks again for the help. |
