Hi Lew ~~~~

I wondered that rom the 1891 Census ........... they did have older children, but a 3 month old baby would still be breast fed, and Eleanor Emily is the only one of age living at home at that time!

Kerryn needs to get the birth certificate.

I looked on familysearch (the Mormon site), and couldn't see anyhting on there for Beatrice.

Philip Deakin 51 b.ca 1840, Hereford, Herefordshire, Ag Lab
Hannah Deakin 42 b.ca 1849, Puddleston, Herefordshire
Eleanor Emily Deakin 17 b.ca 1874, Bockleton, Serefordshire, Domestic Servant
Philip G Deakin 15
William Deakin 14
Annie Jane Deakin 12
John Henry Deakin 9
Thomas Deakin 8
Gertrude Alice Deakin 2 Daughter
Beatrice Violet Deakin 3/12 Granddaughter

She is the GRANDDAUGHTER of Philip and Hannah. All the other children are children of Philip and Hannah, ie Beatrice's aunts and uncles

The parents do have older children not living at home (I checked the 1871 census, but cannot find them in 1881)

Beatrice could be the daughter of an unmarried daughter, possibly even Eleanor Emily

You should buy her birth certificate

Kerrynk Report 18 Feb 2009 05:36

I am not sure what they mean in the 1891 census entry. It says granddaughter - does this mean Phillip and Hannah are her grandparents? or is this list a list of her current family eg siblings and parents?
Sorry for being a bit thick!

Kerryn, you can purchase that marriage certificate from Victorian BDM and download it immediately. It should give you Beatrice's age and parents' details

This could be her birth registration ....... it si the only Beatrice Violet shown, but she could have been registered as Beatrice, and then the Violet added later at baptism. The biorth registration and certificate would not be changed to represent this

I would be grateful if anyone can find me some information on my grandmother Beatrice Violet Deakin. eg where she was born, parents names, siblings, marriage information emigration information and anything else that may be relevant.

What I know so far
- Born in England (written on my dads birth certificate)
- Maiden name Deakin born around 1890,s
- 1st marriage Ernest Armstrong which she had 3 boys Ernest, Maurice and Lesley
- 2nd marriage James Sim born Newcastle Upon Tyne 1879. - James married first wife Eleanor Bates in 1899 and she died in 1913 .
- Sometime after 1913 and before 1927 he married my grandmother Beatrice.
- James and Beatrice had son James approx 1926 (although called George on my dads birth certificate)
- James, Beatrice and 4 boys emigrated to Australia. I would say they immigrated somewhere in the mid 1920's but not sure.
- They then had my dad in Australia - Thomas in 1929.
- James died in 1941 in Geelong Victoria Australia
- After James died she married ????? Williams
- Beatrice died in 1972 in Geelong Victoria Australia

I would appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks heaps
Kerryn
