Find Ancestors

Have just found my nan Mabel Dorethy Roberts as adopted on the 1911 census. She has the name Elsley connected with her. Does this ring any bells with any one. She was born c 1909
Any ideas?

She is listed as Elsley, Mabel Dorethy Robers adopted child aged 18 months born Kingsgate Rd Kilburn. This could come under Willesden, Paddington or Middlesex.

Elsley should be Elsie?

Never thought that it was her Christian name because she was known as Mabel or Dorothy. Will look into it again Thank you.

The 1911 gives her surname as Elsley and christian names as Mabel Dorethy Roberts.

When originally looking for her last year I was unable to find her father (adopted) Charles Roberts. His Widow on his death certificate is M Roberts. My mum thought her name might have been Mary Smith. I have been trying to find Mary Smith on Hot matches. I always wondered privatley if it was Charles that had adopted her! Unfortunatly, prior to 1911 I haven't found Charles an Mary as a couple on the census yet!

You will never know how much this means to my mother and her brother, Mabel died in 1947 when they were young.

Just a couple of thoughts:

If that is the right marriage in 1898, then if Mabel was Mary's daughter she should have been registered under Mary's married name of Roberts. So, I wonder if she is the daughter of a relation of Mary's.

If the 1909 Ilsley/Smith birth are for the same child, it looks as if the father is named on the cert.

Please get the Ilsley cert , Jennifer and come back and let us know.

The were residing in Chichester Road West Kilburn. next road to where I was brought up!

Hi if you have the census image then number of children alive/dead was recorded.

Can only see the parents and adopted child on 1911 census.
Can not fine them prior.
