going to meet bill in a couple of weeks time, i'm in london for a few days anyway (got tickets to see metallica at the 02) and bill is going to come over from southend and meet me and the wife in the afternoon, my dad is going to try and come up aswell, but failing that they will arrange another day anyway. they had quite a long chat on the phone so all is going very well indeed.

for got to ad that vera and william never knew of edith and aurthurs exeistance until william found their birth certificates when clearing out the mothers belongings after she died. she also knew that there was one more child but never knew his name until i told her. she seemed a bit shocked as you'd expect but was very chatty on the phone and was talking quite openly obout the others. i will keep you posted on how things develop.

hi all, just to let you know that i phoned vera earlier this evening and all the info that you kind people have given me has proved to be spot on, i really can't thank you enough, 3 days thats all it took since registering on this site.
i have given her my number and she is going to ring back after the weekend as she's going away tomorrow to the isle of wight for a few days, believe it or not its her 71sts birthday on friday, hows that for timing.

with the names you've supplied
douglas, edith and arthur have passed away, richard hasnt been seen by vera since she was 16, 55 years ago. catherine is living at he address in swindon that was given to me aswell, and william is still living in essex, or 'bill' as she calls him, vera gave me his phone number so i shall be giving him a call tomorrow evening. and if i remember right vera will contact catherine herself and pass on my number.
i cant remember what she said about helen, but she did say she has lost contact with some.
so, what more can i say but a big thankyou to you very kind people, i don't know who you are but if we were ever to meet then the drinks are definately on me.

thankyou.

Just for interest there is a Mrs C McAvoy living at 6 Denton Close, Westcliff on Sea and a Mr D McAvoy living at 2 Norfolk Avenue, Leigh-on-Sea in the Kellys' Directory of 1974.
They are the only 2 living in Southend at that time so they must be your relations.

Good luck with your searches

Anthony Robert Report 9 Feb 2009 21:18

hello again, right ,i've only finished reading some messages that have been sent to me, my wife put the original post up this afternoon and never put much info in so i'll put some more details here.

my dad (reginald robert mcavoy) was admitted into bernardos on 5-11-1943, by his mother catherine helen mcavoy (nee pedley) no date of birth but she was 35 at the time which would make her about 101 but i would imagine that she is not here now. his father was richard peter mcavoy, again no date of birth but he was 39 at the time which again i would guess that hes not here as he'd be 106 now.

as well as my dad, reginald, his mother catherine applied to bernardos for the next eldest brother richard william mcavoy but admission was only offered to my dad, so i would imagine that richard stayed with the mother, but not entirely sure on that one.

i am typing in these details from a document that was given to my dad from bernardos about 8 years or so ago, its an old typed document thats been photocopied by the looks of it and a few bits and pieces are smudged so i cant read all of it but most of it if you know what i mean, but i'll give as much info as i can, and i'll put he last known location as shown on the sheet i have.

the eldest brother douglas mcavoy was 15 at the time (1943) and a far as i am aware was in a school in leicester.

richard william mcavoy, again no date of birth but was aged 10 at the time so he'd be about 76 now. says on document 'with mother'.

catherine elizabeth mcavoy was 13 at the time so wouldbe about 79 now. on document it says 'village homes, addlestone, surey'.

helen mcavoy was 9 at the time so would be about 75 now and vera mcavoy 5 at the time so would be about 71 now, says here that both were evacuated to essex by school authorities.

it also says that the mother (catherine helen mcavoy-nee pedley) was a native of liverpool and was evacuated with her family from (and this is one of the smudged bits but looks something like london or rendon?) london to chelmsford on 2-9-1939 and left the chelmsford district in november 1941 to live in the southend district.

there is a marraige date here which is 12-12-1927 at the parish church, seacombe, chester.

i have some last known addresses but i'm not sure if i'm allowed to post them, is this against any rules here? if not i will post them.

one last note, there is some other information about the father which i'm not going to give at the present time, but maybe someone might know what it is anyway.
