Vicky Report 6 Feb 2009 10:38

I am trying to find any information regarding my 3* Great Grandmother Ellen Callan born roughly in 1841 at Bantry Bay, Ireland. She married Timothy Denehy born in 1834 at Kentuck Cork, Ireland. They had several children Mary Ann (1862, Ireland), my 2*Great Grandfather Timothy Denehy/Denahy(1866), Ellen (1869), Patrick (1873), John (1876), Annie (1878). The last 5 children were born in Marylebone.

Any help would be great.

Interesting adopted son for Mary Ann, wonder why?

Sounds like the Ellen I'm looking for, seems her husband died sometime before 1901.

Vicky Report 6 Feb 2009 11:09

Thats sounds like the same family for the 1881 census but my great great grandfather seems not to be on it.... wonder where he gone off to in 1881?

He may have been in the army in 1881 because this could be him in 91

If you can get Inns on the boards sometimes he does lookups for Ireland but they are very hard to find as a lot have been destroyed.

I know that my Great Great grandfather was in the Middlesex Regiment ant that he was out of the country in the 1890's as he married in 1892 at Mhow, India.

I don't think that army record is correct he would have only been 15 in 1881 sorry about that .
Will have another look

i've tried the 1911 census and I can't seem to find Ellen Denahy on there at all, would that mean she probably died between 1901 and 1911?

Potty

Potty Report 7 Feb 2009 14:37

I can't find a Kentuck in Ireland. There is a Kanturk, in Cork.

The familysearch site has birth and marriage indexes for Ireland, from 1845 to 1958 - click on Record Search Pilot, on drop-down menu under Search Records. There are some possibles there, but the dates don't quite match.

i will look at that site now, is the Bantry Bay also covered on the site?

This is a bit of a long shot but I found info on my Irish ancestors at www.emeraldancestors.com. They also have links to various sites to find out if ancestors emigrated (as many did in the late 1880s).
Good luck.

well the family moved over to England between late 1860's to early 1870s. wonder if there are any emigration records from around that time?

Ireland was treated as part of the UK; there are no records of travel between Ireland and England.
