Hi Andrew,

Yes I had also seen that record from IGI. As it was not an extracted entry I have not taken it for granted that it is correct.

Hi Victoria,

You and I obviously think along the same lines. I had found the probable siblings for Alexander and the marriage for their parents, it's just confirming who Elizabeth Martins mother was that I am struggling with.

Hi Margaret,

The tree owner on Ancestry does not know who Elizabeths mother was. Having read the census entry relating to Joseph Sale listed as father in law thought there may have been a marriage between Alexander and Josephs daughter so a possible mother for Elizabeth.

As to James Hampton, nephew to Alex, I think I will have to search for a marriage for a Hampton to one of Alex's sisters.

Thank you to all who are trying to sort this for me.

Chris

IGI M043951
William Martin married Cornelia Perrins 1835, this ties in with the Benjamin Perrins in the 1851 census for Alex??

There's a tree on Ancestry with Alexander Martin born 1821, Kidderminster, married to Unknown Sale. Their daughter Elizabeth, born 1841 Kidderminster married Thomas Oliver and died 1909, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, U.S.A. There's even a photo of her.

Hi Victoria,

Thank you for your help. I will have to check the death record that I have but I think it relates to the death you have found.

Vicci Report 5 Feb 2009 21:55

I can't find a marriage for Alex and Elizabeth or death for elz Martin however there is a death for Eliz Edwards
Name: Elizabeth Edwards
Year of Registration: 1841
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Kidderminster
County: Hereford and Worcester, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire
Volume: 18
Page: 295
This fits with the birth of Eliz MArtin who was Ch. 26 Dec 1841

I think that the 1851 census of Ann Ewards is probaly wrong and should be mother in law/grandmother

Alex marrage to Mary Pirks is 1851
Alexander Martin
Year of Registration: 1851
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Kidderminster
County: Hereford and Worcester, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire
Volume: 18

Hi Margaret,

Thank you for trying to help. I had wondered if Joseph Sale was the father of Alexanders wife Mary Pirks (I thought she may have perhaps been married before) but couldn't find a marriage for Pirks/Sale

No deaths for an Elizabeth Martin in Kidderminster and only 2 for Worcestershire between Dec 1841 and Dec 1843 (Tewkesbury and Stratford)

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 5 Feb 2009 21:46

I don't think that's right, Victoria.
According to the 1851 census Alexander is head and Ann Edwards is his mother. (All relationships are as related to the head.) I think she must have remarried.
Joseph Sale is Alexander's father-in-law so Alexander must have married a Sale.
Then there's the added problem of James Hampton being a nephew.
How does he fit in?

Chrissie2394 Report 5 Feb 2009 21:40

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for that, no wonder I couldn't find him how on earth did you?

Hi Victoria,

That's what I was thinking but couldn't find the marriage so presumed it didn't happen as I'd thought Elizabeth would have been 15/16 when young Elizabeth was born. Perhaps I need to find a death for an Elizabeth Martin. Alexanders wife Sarah was already pregnant with William when she and Alex married in 1843 so he didn't hang about did he.

Chris

Vicci

Vicci Report 5 Feb 2009 21:34

this is what I've worked out so far

Alexander married Elizabeth Edwards (her mother presumabley was Ann)
Alex & Eliz had a daughter Elizabeth b.1841
Eliz Martin nee Edwards must have died 1841-1843
Alex then married Sarah Burige 1843
their son was William b. 1844

Alexander from 1841?

Have a look at the actual census image. Above Alexander are Joseph Edwards 55 and Ann Edawrds 50. Any connection to your Joseph and Ann (his future in laws)??
