Still waiting to hear back from the Isle of Wight Web site re burials and Still no joy in fing their marriage.

The plot thickens

UPDATE

Just received marriage cert for George Dimmick and Elizabeth Barron dated 30th March 1888 Kensington.
Father is Henry John Dimmick which is correct and he was a cabinet maker.
I have found them on the 1891 cencus together. But can't find a death.
So I have come to the conclusion that probably George and Elizabeth must have parted and he got together with Sarah Jane and Sarah Jane took the Dimmick name.

Thanks for the Isle of Whight Web site.
I contacted them yesterday regarding the burial sites for George Dimmick and Sarah Jane Toogood.
They emailed me back with a site to find out this info and were very helpful.
Would reccomend this site to any one looking for relatives on the isle of wight.

Still can't find the Marriage between George Dimmick and Sarah Jane Newman though between 1896 and 1899 or several years either side.

Any one got any ideas where else to look?

yes it is strange.
I have Sarah Jane and george Dimmicks Son's Berth cert and it mentions bothe her previous names... late Newman .... Formally Rogers.

the other thing is in 1901 george is married to Lill. but this must be Sarah Jane and is a nick name or something beacause all the other datails match. I have looked to see if george dimmick married a Lill but there is no record of it either.

Don't know where else to look now .... any suggestions?

I can't find that marriage, either, and I've searched everywhere I can think of. Curious, too, that they don't give the previous married name of Newman on the Isle of Wight records when she married George Toogood. They usually give all previous married names.

Sorry for causing more confusion. The George I was referring to was George Toogood who she married in 1930.
I posted the site for Isle of Wight records. Only problem with it is that you're limited to search 5 years at a time..

I am confused
I have her as marrying a Mr Toogood on the Isle of wight in 1930.
George died I think in 1917 when my grandad was young.

Isle of Wight is in Hampshire, just south of Southampton. Queen Victoria had her home, Osborne House there.
There's a lot of Dimmick records there on this site:

But her marriage to George was on the Isle of Wight records in 1930 with both her maiden name and previous married name.

Thanks for all the help
The plot thickens.
I'm sure the Dimmick one is right.
But when did she marry George? or perhaps she just called herself Dimmick but they never married?
Very strange!!

The marriage record on Isle of Wight site has both names Rogers and Dimmick but not Newman.

Reference: COE17.3/208
Year of Marriage: 1930
Place: All Saints, Freshwater Participants (with alternative names, variant spellings, etc):
DIMMICK, Sarah, J
ROGERS, Sarah, J
TOOGOOD, George, E

Yes it does but I think it is wrong because it says 20 years!!! and I know she married William stewart Newman in 1891 and he died in 1896.

This is why i am so confused
in 1891 he is married to an Elizabeth
In 1901 it says he is married to a Lill but think this is sarah actually as childrens and adults ages, places of birth match exactly to george and sarah jane.
and in 1911 it says sarah jane

so confusion goes on.

Does the 1911 not say how long they have been married?

Sandra

Sandra Report 29 Jan 2009 12:44

The other info I know is she married in the isle of wight
Dimmick Sarah J...........Toogood.......dec 1930

So she is called Dimmick here as well, which makes me think they were married.

Any Ideas?

Hi Eric,
Thanks for the help.
Yes you have found the same as me. the cencus says he is married to a Lill...!! I have a feeling this may be sarah jane?
I know that they went on to have 2 more childre Herbert Edward in1902 and Bertie Harold in 1905 (This is my grandad)
I have the 1911 census which shows
George Dimmick age 45 born Chelsea
Sarah jane Dimmick age 39 born poplar
Albert william Dimmick age 16 born lambeth
George henry dimmick age 11 born tooting wandsworth
Herbert Edward Dimmick sge 9 born tooting wandsworth
Bertie Harold Dimmick age 6 born tooting wandsworth

I know Albert was definately a Newman not a Dimmick.

The other thing I know is she did re marry a Mr Toogood in the isle of wight after george Died.

Perhaps they just said they were married and never did???
