Find Ancestors

I am just starting to do my maternal family tree and I have already hit a brick wall! ......

My Great Grandad GEORGE FREDERICK WOOTTON (c1882) married a FLORENCE WOOD between 1900 (earliest) and 1908 - their first child was born in 1908 - Marie Edith Wootton

However because he was in the army (ESSEX REGIMENT - 56th FOOT) at this time we presume, I am finding it difficult to try and trace their marriage! I need the certificate to try and confirm his fathers name! Apparently George left home at 14 because of his STEP father whose name was never discussed!

Could anyone please help on this - were military marriages different from civil ones so to speak and where could I obtain the information required from... is it worth just phoning the GRO? Im hoping to have his miltary records some time this week.

George Wootten & Florence Wood (Could be down as Florrie Wood) married 27th April 1907 in St Clements Church, Manchester. The Witnesses were William Wood & Emily Dickinson.

George's mother was Rose Wootten and he had a brother John & Sisters Lilian & Edith.

His kids were:

Florence Rose b.27.05.12
Lilian b.12.06.16 Harwich.

My grandad also GEORGE FREDERICK WOOTTON (spelt Wooton on the register) was born in 1914 so Marie Edith, John David, Florence Rose and Lilian are his siblings - he also has Alma, Irene and Joe.

It seems to fit into place that my Great Grandads mother was Rose (hence Florence Rose).

The mispellings of the name seems to of been the cause for the brick wall!

His father was George ---- in the Army Papers it states he was born in Warley Essex....look what I've found.

Wow! You should do this for a living!

Ive managed to trace George to William but couldnt get on the Latter Day Saints site so thats brilliant about William - and even his mom!

Could you tell me how to search for George Frederick records on Ancestory please Lesley - all I am getting his WWI Rolls (and there are several George Wottons) and then Pension records - I am absolutely stuck on this one!
