I am looking for the baptism of Augustus Munns Smith born in Lambeth or Hackney depending which census you believe around 1829/30 son of Charles Smith.
I am also looking for a marriage between Charles Smith and a woman with the surname of Munns. There are two on IGI but I wonder if there are any more. Unfortunately the only Augustus that fits the bill on the 1841 census is at school and I wouldn't have thought mine had that sort of education as he ended up a general labourer.

Any help anyone can give would be appreciated.

Many "working class" kids will have been entered as a scholar if they are under 13.

Hackney is north of the thames and Lambeth south. Im surprised he was that confused on census? Or did they moved when he was a young child?

There is this child and note his bro is Charles? When did father die, do you know? Area is a bit upmarket if you say he was a labourer.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to try to help. I have his marriage cert from 1857 from which I learned that his father's name is Charles.
On the 1851 census Augustus is shown as 22 born Lambeth a musician and he is at Grimsby in lodgings and the other person lodging there is a Charles Smith also a musician eight years older than him. So I suspect he could be a brother. On his marriage cert he is shown as a toy maker and his father's occupation could be singer but the word looks longer than that.
On the 1861 census he is shown as Augustus Muns born Hackney but the wife and children are right. Then 71 born London, 81 Hackney and 91 Lambeth. You know what they were like! On all of those he was a general labourer sort of worker but his son, Augustus, turned out to be a musician.
On the 1841 census the only one I thought sounded possible is listed as being a pupil at Clarence House which is a school.

I hope this helps. I just hoped that someone would have baptisms on a CD which might give me a clue.

The 1841 you found isn't entirely impossible as the marriage I found on IGI for a Charles to an Ann Munns was at Marylebone.

London is a HUGE place with so many churches, you would need to know which church for a look up.
